Blueblood Posted May 25, 2024 Share #1 Posted May 25, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m wondering if you are using super / multi clamps (or whatever description) to substitute the tripod? They are smaller and lighter in size, however I’m skeptical to use it. Don’t feel comfortable on their clamps on the railing or pipe when setting up for the position. Do you feel safe and secure on your $6k Q3? The other disadvantage is there need to have a railing or pole when setting up. What is your take? If you are using, which is your recommendation? LocalHero1953 Posted May 25, 2024 Share #2 Posted May 25, 2024 (edited) Anything I could clamp to is in the wrong place. There is nothing to clamp to where I want to take a photo. Edited May 25, 2024 by LocalHero1953
dpitt Posted May 25, 2024 Share #3 Posted May 25, 2024 Leica has made the perfect small tripods and ball heads years ago. Even heavy camera's like my SL and R lens are not a problem. https://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/TOOUG If you feel they are on the heavy side. Minolta made a clone of the table top tripod with integrated small ball head in the 80s and 90s that is almost as sturdy but weighs only half of the Leica version.
Blueblood Posted May 25, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted May 25, 2024 This is the clamp which I’ve seen. I wonder if anyone has been using it. Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted May 25, 2024 Share #5 Posted May 25, 2024 A beanbag is often as effective and more versatile.
bobtodrick Posted May 25, 2024 Share #6 Posted May 25, 2024 Personally I agree that if you’re trying to save weight a small tabletop tripod is the way to go. As mentioned there is often not a pipe when you need it. That said if you decide to go with a clamp I’d personally not do so without using an anchoring cable such as this https://www.amazon.ca/American-Scable-60-Lighting-Safety/dp/B00387G1XC/ref=asc_df_B00387G1XC/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459055160847&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16313184950309205532&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9001364&hvtargid=pla-448722022020&psc=1&mcid=5e716f168c6432e0b6661fdf325986b0 If the clamp slips your camera doesn’t hit the ground
Blueblood Posted May 25, 2024 Author Share #7 Posted May 25, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is definitely a good point to use an anchoring cable to secure the camera if the clamp fails, which addresses my main concern. Just that how and where to attach the cable on the camera, which I need to figure out a way to do it.
