Smudgerer Posted June 15, 2024 Share #41 Posted June 15, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Me too, too many bags......I thought I was well in 12 steps GAS recovery but the mentions here on this thread of the Wotan Pilot hooked me and I now have the Pilot 7L and it is along with my old battered tried and true Domkes firmly on the winner's podium shuffling for position. Light, extremely well made, pretty well thought out and can be accessorized with extra clip-on pouches if the need arises, so far little to dislike about this bag. The larger 10L Pilot got a DPReview Gear of the year award in 2021 and the Pilot series has been upgraded with improvements since then by Wotan. Thanks to those here who bought this bag to my attention, now how do I explain the "slip" to my sponsor?

As of today, there is a combination of half case and handle, so far there was only one or the other. Oberwerth makes very high quality bags and photo accessories. I ordered one right away, because it closes exactly the gap in the market. Here is the link Leica M11 TagCase® Prestige (oberwerth.com) Welcome, dear visitor! I'm interested in a grip that doesn't increase the size of my M11 by way of a bottom plate. Thanks

Of course, the leather makes the camera about 3mm higher, but there is no other way. But I also bought a wrist strap, then it's really perfect. All other cases I've seen have fairly small finger bumps, which do help, but more purchase would be better if I could get that without increasing the overall size/weight. Thank you for your advice.

I am flying and cruising for six weeks and I want to find a bag that will transport M11, 21 VM Nokton, 35 Apo Summicron, 75 Apo Summicron, Visoflex2, battery etc AND noise cancelling over ear headphones, Kindle Scribe, medicine, hand gel, passports, tickets, guide/notebook etc etc. AND be allowable as carry on for the single Easy Jet flight which is the only one on the trip with strict restrictions of 45cm x 36cm x 20 cm. Closest I have is a Billingham Hadley One but it’s a bit tight to fit that lot and lacks a zip. I could add end pockets for more space but by the time I ship them here they’ll be about 40% of the cost of a new bag anyway. I don’t really need to work out of the bag and some places I’ll go, anything that looks too fancy might draw unwanted attention. Filson did a bag in conjunction with Magnum a few years ago that would have probably been ideal but that isn’t available any more sadly. Does anyone have a suggestion? I wondered about the Billingham Eventer which is fractionally bigger than a Hadley One and has a zip but I’m not convinced it’s different enough to justify the not insignificant cost. I suspect it may be too late to respond to the OP, but in case this helps someone else I'll add a bag suggestion. I took the OP's exact set of gear to Croatia last year using the Wandrd 3L Rogue sling ( https://www.wandrd.com/products/rogue-3l-sling?variant=39445210923088 ). I realize many people want a more fashionable bag, but most of the time I'm primarily interested in function over form. I look for protection (weather, impact), fast access (without any metal zippers), and the flexible utility to carry extras, when desired. I've seen a few mentions of this bag on this forum, but less than I think it deserves. The problem I have with many bags is that they are too deep. For an M, I want a bag that's about as deep as the camera is wide (about 6"/15cm) -- enough the stow the camera up on its end with a little room to spare. That's also enough room to double stack regular-sized M lenses (using either a fold down divider or double end caps). Any deeper, and things start to get lost down in the bag; shallower, and I have to stow the camera in a less space-efficient orientation that also may not allow double stacking lenses. The Rogue 3L is a relatively shallow, flat rectangular shape that accommodates an M body with a lens attached, plus 3 additional regular-sized lenses and the Visoflex (or perhaps up to 4 additional lenses if you don't have any that are too large to double-stack) -- plus non-bulky extras (filters, cleaning stuff, etc. The expandable laptop/tablet carry feature works like a large full length, zippered pocket if you don't also carry a laptop/tablet. The exterior tube-shaped, expansion 'pocket' carries a water bottle (waterproof-separated from all of the camera gear), and that tube -- or the exterior straps -- can also carry a tripod and/or jacket, or the tube and straps all tuck out of the way when unused. It's not fancy looking but quite functional. I have 2 dislikes: (1) The shoulder strap is maxed out when the bag is loaded to its maximum potential. I'd like something a littler wider, a little more padded, and with a little more structural support to it. It's only a problem for me when I overload the bag and then carry it all day, but YMMV. (2) The Wandrd dividers waste space. I use the small size of the origami dividers from Peak Design in this bag. They're padded enough, enable double stacking lenses, and save ~1cm of wasted interior space (each). Lastly, I think it may be possible to carry 2 M bodies (with lenses attached) plus 2 more lenses (so long as none of the lenses are oversized) in this bag. I don't have a second M body to test this out, but I am accepting applications for to provide me with a second camera for thorough user testing -- M11Ms go to the head of the line. You could always walk em on around you neck:-) If you insist on the headphones a hadly pro should work with the phones laid over the inside on top of the top protector but under the flap. Slip you valuable documents between the insert and case in the rear and they won't go anywhere. The leica M case is good also and would be close. The pockets on the hadley smallholders more though. Aren't bags fun! can you ever have too many?

Thanks I put it on mine and it mad it feel as if the svelte stealthy camera I'd bought had turned into a Canon 1dx. Of course nothing like it but it blew a huge hole into what inspires me about the camera. I sometimes use it in cities but I suspect the added bling and size offsets the ability to *imagine* you'll find it if stolen.

I just bought this bag and am struggling to see how I get more than camer with lens mounted and another lens in there. To be honest, even just the camera with lens is a bit of a squeeze depending on how the camera is situated.
Yoyoid Posted June 28 Share #49 Posted June 28 (edited) Measuring my bags and looking at Wandrd's product pages, you're absolutely right: I have the 6L and 9L (not the 3 and 6). My 6L holds: M11, 21 SEM, 35 APO, 50 Lux, 75 APO, Visoflex, filters, strap, cleaning supplies, and travel tripod with a bit of room if necessary for incidentals and for a water bottle or rain jacket in the exterior saddlebag. It's rainproof, and doesn't look like a camera bag. (I'll try to edit my original post.) (Update: cannot) Edited June 28 by Yoyoid Update
