I'm in no rush so I'll wait for a while after the release to the public and get a better feel for the camera. I would use the S9 with Leica M and R lenses for the most part. Maybe a Lumix lens. Maybe an old Nikon or Zeiss lens too. Many options, also thinking there might be a S9 Pro down the line? I'll get a much better idea when I hold one in my hands. No rush. S9 with e.g. Voigtländer 35mm f2.5 Skopar, or Leica Summicron-C 40mm, or the Lumix 26mm pancake or the new Lumix 18-40mm are/appear quite attractive. Would be interesting to test (and to see how pocketable the S9 is with a tiny lens).

Simone_DF Posted June 21, 2024 Share #103 Posted June 21, 2024 Given that the S9 camera sales exceeded Panasonic’s expectations, perhaps there will be something in between the S9 and the S5, and smaller lenses to go with it? Who knows

ensoniq70 Posted June 26, 2024 Share #106 Posted June 26, 2024 In Germany the S9 is available in different stores like Foto Koch or Foto Leistenschneider. But i will also wait serveral month. A price round about 1.100 - 1.200 € would be fine for this camera.
dsalamena Posted June 27, 2024 Share #107 Posted June 27, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I must admit that my first impression with the Lumix S9 was not very positive. However, I had the opportunity to test it with the Lumix 20-60 and it does look a good alternative to the CL for anyone looking for a compact L-mount camera. It lacks EVF and a mechanical shutter, but it gains on image quality, IBIS, low light autofocus, high res pictures, digital zoom, usb-c connection, LUTs etc. I'm considering the S9 as a compact option when I don't want to use my Leica gear. I can see myself using it with the 20-60 and, when needed, with M and TL lenses (10 mpx are more than enough) as a travel or everyday camera. In Asia it is already priced around 1.100/1.200 euro, so the price is not too bad. Sure I will keep waiting for a compact L-mount camera with EVF... Re «compact L-mount camera with EVF»; this is Sigma FP (almost, at least). What I like with S9 is that it uses lots of the goodies from Lumix S5ii, notably a very good IBIS.

Avatar Posted July 3, 2024 Share #110 Posted July 3, 2024 Got my S9 today. Just for background, I am 100% street shooter and mostly M11M with 24mm or 28mm lenses. I have had all the q's several times and had a Q3 twice.. Love the Q3 and it's never failed me for autofocus which is one reason i love it so much. But since I really am about the M11M, I don't really need the Q3 although i have zero complaints about it. I recently got a CL to try but while great, not for me for a variety of reasons. I had the S9 on order since I first read about it and like many who posted here, it really was like Lumix was reading my mind in all that it offers and even doesn't offer.I don't need an EVF, no need for hot shoe, etc. I put a small rig grip on the S9 and it has one of the best in hand feels I've had in a very long time..Weight adds up quickly and before I knew it, it weighed 901grams.. I was working late yesterday with a shoot and editing and didn't have a chance to take the S9 out but so many encouraging signs..the autofocus is lightening fast even though I am fine with zone focusing and use that 95% of the time. Love the look and feel of this camera! I am optimistic it will deliver on quality and will post up some pictures soon. Will Leica follow suit with their version of mostly the same camera? I was hoping for a CL2 and this really is it so far. 1

Any available light night shots with M and R lenses. Only asking as this is what I would use an S9 for -------- selfish thoughts. Would be great to see what you get out of it ----- and again Congratulations and Enjoy! Edited July 3, 2024 by OR120

I will get some portraits wide open with an M lense in the next couple of days. I am trying to really learn the Lumix menu's and I just cannot stand them..But I will tough it out I think as the camera feel and so much about it is really great. i'm glad I sold my short lived CL, as this is exactly what i was hoping for..I have a good friend who will help me out as some of the settings I find confusing besides irritating! I ordered a Sigma 24mm 3.5 as it's light to see if i can use it for my street work..I'd prefer 28mm but not much out there that's as light as i want. Gotta say again, the S9 with the small rig grip might have the best or one of best in hand camera feels..I can't put it down! I wasn't yet able to set the AF button to zoom in as he had it but..even if I could, I primarily will only use this camera with L mount lenses such as the 24mm 3.5 that's en route. The auto focus tests i did inside were phenomenal. Hopefully i can learn enough to hardly ever go into the menu's again..I still will take out an M lense and see what I can do.. Stay tuned! I fear it will be on the large side for my liking (given the size of S9), but hard to tell. Voigtländer’s Color Skopar lenses are certainly on the thin side and reasonably priced - for those accepting manual lenses. I suppose the output of S9 + M lenses will be very similar to the output from S5ii/x with M lenses which is so-so with focal length < 35mm. With R lenses it should be ok. I'm more concerned about handling the focussing without EVF

mokona Posted July 3, 2024 Share #117 Posted July 3, 2024 what I meant is that I personally find it not practical to manual focus using only the back display. Can be done as backup solution, like using the live view on a M camera, but as a main purpose for the S9, might be challenging.
Avatar Posted July 4, 2024 Share #118 Posted July 4, 2024 (edited) Well, i have and have gone through many cameras recently. Usually I make a fast determination if it is right for me or not. I went out for a bit today in my neighborhood with an 28mm Elmarit using a Leica M/L mount, Also brought along a Lumix 50mm 1.8. As mentioned I am trying to stay true to shooting with an M11M. Using mostly these days that same 28mm Elmarit..Luckily I remembered to take the orange filter off! I got a late start and I really need to shoot more with the S9 to be fair..I dislike the menu system so much it bias' me against the camera! But I'm sticking with it as it does have great potential, especially if one doesn't mind the $% menu's. I usually shoot very few frames when i go out..remnant of film days but today i shot about 300 images in an hour..I don't want to overwhelm the thread with pictures but here's a few. These two were taken with the Lumix 50mm 1.8 lens. Once I went inside, I struggled with some focus settings and need to sort that out tomorrow. Some settings are confusing to me..I think I already admitted I'd happily pay twice as much for the Leica version of this camera..no question actually. The battery life was great..amazing actually..at least 300 frames and was constantly messing around with it. Another thing that I liked is the camera did not get hot at all.. of course i wasn't shooting video but i don't like shooting with a hot camera! I have the small rig with grip on it and it has one of the best in hand camera feels..Very important to me. The flip screen and ability to use it extended and in portrait mode, I really liked.. The S9 is really great for sure..Is it for me? I need more time with it to know.. Manual shooting with the M lense was surprisingly or shockingly good for me. This was unexpected. I am a zone shooter and rarely look through a view finder as it is. Since I have very little autofocus experience, i got confused immediately when putting on the M lense..I had to actually remember to focus. It was getting late and need more time with this very interesting camera tomorrow. For non Leica snobs who don't struggle with the menu's and settings, it greatly exceeded my expectations and blows away the CL as it should as it's so much newer and full frame..Of course I greatly prefer leica's menu structure as I've already admitted I'd spend 100% more for them! Avatar Posted July 4, 2024 Share #119 Posted July 4, 2024 These were taken with the 28mm elmarit..using only zone focus. It was later in the day than it seemed but still decent light. Well I can see I will have to figure out what sizes will allow more than 1 or two images.. Welcome, dear visitor! Avatar Posted July 4, 2024 Share #120 Posted July 4, 2024 (edited) Elmarit 28mm zone focus. I took these in a very short amount of time but the surprise of the day was using m lenses to shoot as I do on M cameras yielded pretty good focus results. I wasn't looking for this camera to be a manual focus camera but.. Let's see if it can displace the Q3..need to work on the colors, settings and light to make this more fair..as of now the Q3 is better but again, need to spend a bit of time. $1500 camera to shoot M lense and it's light and feels great in the hand..this is a no brainer for most people who are not crazy leica fanboys like me! Great quick start to the S9 and I'll be using it again in the coming days! Sorry for the sloppy uploads.. Welcome, dear visitor!
