pookdog Posted April 27, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted April 27, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there a noticeable difference between the $8 Amazon protector and the $45 OEM protector? Anyone have specific recommendations?
Advertisement Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Hi pookdog, Take a look here Best screen protector for q3?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted April 27, 2024 Share #2  Posted April 27, 2024 IMO the cheapest is the best. You can buy five for one and they will need to be replaced from time to time anyway.
JNK100 Posted April 27, 2024 Share #3  Posted April 27, 2024 The Leica one is expensive but high quality and way to apply.
Le Chef Posted April 27, 2024 Share #4  Posted April 27, 2024 Expert Shield screen protectors. They come in two’s so if you mess one up, you have a spare. They’re lightweight thin glass. They are very easy to fit without getting bubbles. And the instructions are easy to follow. I have them on my CL and Q3.

My1stLeicaCam Posted April 29, 2024 Share #8  Posted April 29, 2024 I had the Leica protector when I bought with Q3. But the protector will separate from the lcd screen when the screen is warm. Bought the JJC. 1/4 of the Leica price and no delamination issue.
LesR Posted April 30, 2024 Share #9  Posted April 30, 2024 I had the same problem. Fitted the Leica protector when the camera was a few days old. As soon as the ambient temperature increased the edges of the protector separated from the screen. In Tunisia last week it separated by about ¼ inch all round ( camera off). Just fitted a JJC protector and so far so good. Off to Eastern Mediterranean in two weeks so fingers crossed.

fotografr Posted May 1, 2024 Share #12 Â Posted May 1, 2024 I've been using Expert Shield Glass on all my Leicas for many years. That's over a dozen cameras and I've never had to replace any of them. Additionally, they are crystal clear and when applied correctly you can't even tell there's a shield on it. Just follow the instructions they provide, and for best dust free results apply the screen while in a steamy bathroom.

uogood Posted December 22, 2024 Share #14  Posted December 22, 2024 I’ve been using the Leica OEM protector since the very beginning, and I noticed that the screen would develop bubbles around the corners on warm days. Additionally, I encountered a battery drain issue when I enabled WiFi mode (either eco or performance). The protector almost came off once during that time.  After several months of usage, I’ve observed that two corners of the screen are now permanently stuck with bubbles.  I appreciate you sharing information about other protectors! (I found the $45 USD price for a single piece of OEM protector to be quite excessive. In the past, at least two pieces were included for the Q1 model 7-8 years ago.) Welcome, dear visitor! Le Chef Posted December 22, 2024 Share #15 Â Posted December 22, 2024 Failure can happen to any of the options, depending on the quality of the screen protector and how you handle the camera. I still think ExpertShield works well. The screens are easy to install. They give you two. And with both CL and Q3, I have yet to need to replace any of their screens. Money well spent!
