You didn't ask me, but if I may answer it anyway - in my world buying such a lens to be able to "shoot in dark places" does not make sense at all. f/1.2 doesn't give a noticeable difference in that regard compared to other f/1.4 lenses og besides that -  modern cameras produce clean images with very high ISO values - so what's the point?

If you want to buy this f/1.2 Sigma - the only valid reason could be because you are bokeh junky - in a same fashion as people, who buy Noctilux lenses (be it f/1.2, f/1 or f/0.95)

I actually have both the Sigma 50 1.2 and the 50 Summilux-SL.  50 is my preferred focal length.  Let me start by saying that I love the rendering of the 50 Lux SL.  I carry the Sigma instead of the Lux for many of the events I shoot because I can use the same 50mm lens for people photos and plated food/closeup product type shots.  The Sigma focuses much closer than the Lux does.  I just shot an event in Grand Cayman last month and the Sigma 50 1.2 was my most used lens by a wide margin.  If the minimum focus distance of the Lux was significantly better I would carry that instead for those circumstances.

For many years I maintained a healthy creative relationship with my Noct 095 on an M9 (a match made in heaven). I've been out of the M game for a while now (running two S system cameras), but with the recent acquisition of the SL2 I am thinking to combine good (maybe even very good and accurate) AF, shallow DoF and low light use. Am doing quite a bit of portraiture and fashion these days, too, so that may be an appropriate use of this f1.2 lens. One older 095 sample below.

Thanks for the feedback. I do know what I am getting myself into.

Not sure if this tread is about the same lens,
i just got a Email from Sigma Italy showing the (new?) Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DN Art and it looks as a great lens.
There is a review in Italian language with many photos HERE

Hi!
is there anyone who trade 50 lux or APO for the sigma?

is there a difference in IQ and are you happy with the exchange?

YES, well, almost.

I have the Summilux-M 50, Noctilux-M 0.95, Summicron APO 50, Summicron-R 50, Panasonic S50, and the Sigma 50 1.2

For my SL camera, I would be happy with just one 50 1.2, it is my favorite lens.

I still like the M lenses for the M11.

I am considering these very two lenses at the moment. Would pair with SL2S, first lens and first Leica. Mostly a walking around lens: street, architecture, some candid family shots and travel. Any advice for a Leica noobie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had the 50mm SL APO and sold it before I got the Sigma 50mm 1.2 (using a 50mm 1.2 Noctilux before it arrived). Personally I prefer the Sigma 50mm 1.2 over the 50mm APO as a 50 because a) it’s 1.2 b) AF is excellent - way better than the SL 50’s c) it’s the same weight as the APO d) IQ and rendering are outstanding and probably Sigma’s best prime at the moment - much prefer it for people. When it comes to 35mm SL lenses though the APO is the best for me over the Sigma 35mm 1.2 but they say version 2 of that lens is coming which will be lighter and has better AF, so that will be interesting!!
