No problem at all, thanks for your reply. I’ve lived and worked in a multitude of ‘foreign’ countries, and everyone required various adjustments which I did not always appreciate!

This explains a lot Simone...a number of times you have posted things which I took as being impolite, but in the future I will keep in mind that English is not your first language 🙂

But just to be clear, though nor Simone or I are native english speakers, the desire for a Q40/50 remains…

Yeah, you can learn the grammar and the vocabulary, but unless you live in another country for a few years, maybe a decade, you'll never learn the differences between what is said and what is really meant (looking at you, Japan!)

Nah, I think I'll just stick to a S9 + Sigma 45mm or 50mm, despite the compromises it still look the better option to me. At this stage it's just a matter of waiting for the prices to drop. And who knows if we'll see a Leica equivalent of that, I'd certainly buy it especially if Leica makes it more photo-oriented by adding a mechanical shutter and external EVF support.

Which from my perspective (pun intended) is exactly why the (let’s call them) “emulated” focal lengths offered by the Q3 have worked out so well for me.  At the instant I release the shutter I may visualize an image as occupying only a portion of the viewfinder, but I get an opportunity to revisit that decision in post.

What would be useful is a firmware update to zoom the live view to the selected emulated focal length—perhaps as an option rather than as an alternative to the frame lines for those who prefer the latter—while still retaining the full resolution of the sensor in the captured file.  I have no insight into the actual coding of the Q3 firmware, but since the image can be enlarged in manual focus mode or during post-capture playback, I would be surprised if such an enhancement would be difficult to implement.
