You were lucky with Mt. Fuji 😀 When we passed by on the Shinkansen nothing could be seen due to dense clouds and rain. I also suggest doing at least some travels by train - it is such a great experience to buy a nice bento box at the station and than eat it while the landscape flys by. A much more enjoyable ride compared to traveling with Deutsche Bahn and every stop exactly on time. And a lot to photograph while traveling.

As individual travelers, we use the JR Pass and will rent a car if necessary. We took one into account on Fuji. We hope for good weather.
