Charging S battery

When I got S3, I thought it is missing the charger. It only comes with the power adapter part. Later I realized the battery has a connector hole for direct charging. I think a Leica did the right thing but only half way. To make it better, that hole should be a USB port.

I wish all new rechargeable batteries do this. Then we need no more dedicated battery charger. Just a USB cable for every thing.

Oh, I forget there are many many USB connector types.

They're not going to change that now. As a matter of fact, new batteries can be hard to come by today as it is a discontinued camera. Maybe the unicorn S4 will have a USB-C port per European mandates.

That could be a problem , I have just bought the third battery and dual charger. It’s still possible to buy the S3 batteries at Leica stores.

Leica S battery lasts long for each charging cycle. I have hardly run out the battery in each photo trip. I was tempted by the dual charger but figured it might not be very useful, given the price is high and hard to find.

S battery is still available from B&H, Aforama, etc.

I don’t live in the USA. I ordered and got the battery through Bangkok Leica Store. I received it with my repaired lens.

I have had several dual chargers (both my cameras have battery packs), but currently have none!  They do not seem that robust; my first was DOA, the second lasted about 6 years and the third about 3 years.  Given how often S batteries need charged none of them were overworked.....

I know it is too late to change S battery design. I am suggesting all future batteries of all brands all models. I am hoping one USB cable with multiple connector ends to serve all.
