I just received my new Q3. I started tweaking some things to my liking and set up my first user profile. I thought it was very strange that each time I made some changes, turning off the camera and turning it back on the camera would boot up to the default profile. So I would have to turn on the camera, go to menu, go to profiles, and select my own custom profile to get back to the settings that I wanted before I could shoot.. I wasn't able to find any info on this particular issue, so I wanted to put it out there.

I ended up replacing a Pro Master Rugged v90 SD Card for a San Disk Extreme Pro v90. The issue instantly went away, along with a boot up glitch I was experiencing.

Is there any explanation on how an SD card can cause these types of issues?

Beyond that I am really enjoying my new Q3

As soon as you make a change to the settings it will revert to "Default" profile since it now differs from your saved profile. Are you making changes and then rebooting the camera expecting it to automatically choose your saved profile on start up?

Whether this is expected behaviour or not, it is very irritating, in my opinion. My bugbear is the focus point moving away from the centre against my wishes, and I also often find the profile has changed from me to default. This must be because if something that I do unwittingly, and I hope to identify it one day. 😀

I don’t think that the position of the focus point is part of any profile.
As an explained above, if you change any profile parameter in the camera that is set to a specific profile it will default to the standard profile when shut down and started up again.

When I turn the camera on I want all settings to be the same as when I turned the camera off. The Q3 does this, as well as every camera I've had in the past. However, it did not do this until I swapped SD cards

This is incorrect

The Q3 will restart with the same settings as it had when it was last switched off. It DOES NOT revert to the Standard (Default) Profile. If it does then something is wrong.

Right, in my original post I don't think I was clear enough. With the first SD card that I used the camera would not turn on with the same settings it had when switched off.

I dont think I was clear about this, sorry! I want the focus point to stay always in the centre. I have turned off Touch AF. What else is there that I havent found to prevent the focus point from moving?

The wandering central focus point issue is there since at least a decade.Obviously still the same on the SL3.  I suppose the solution is the same as before: tap the screen twice to recenter or push the joystick. An S3 user will be able to tell with certainty.

Thanks for confirming my sanity.  I have a Q3 and have been doing the double click thing; but it means that I have to check the position all the time to prevent focussing on some irrelevant detail by mistake! 😃

If you turn Touch AF off, which you have done, then the focus point can only be moved by using the cursor keys. If you then want to re-center it then double tap on the screen.

Is this what you observe?

Also, what is your Touch AF in EVF set to? If it is on then you can accidentally, or deliberately, move the focus point by touching the LCD when your eye is at the viewfinder.

yes.  I suppose it is very easy to touch the cursor keys unknowingly, and I dont know of any way to disable this feature. (I alway focus then recompose.) in fact, having large fingers, I avoid touch control, using it only on the Status Screen.

That is set to off. I had forgotten that option.

Many thanks for your help.
