Klassika Posted April 3, 2024 Share #1  Posted April 3, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Leica users, i would like to know if the Leica 50mm dual range with goggles will function on the Leica M11. This is an unmodified sample lens. is there any risk of damaging the body while attaching the lens to the body? I know that previous M’s like M10 will give problems. I read that if you want to use the close focus option on the M11 you have to unmount the lens, then put the goggles on and then mount the lens again to the body to use the close focus range in combination with the Visoflex 2. Is this correct? I also read somewhere that you can attach the lens on the M11 without problems because the mount is different from the other digital M bodys. Again is this correct?  Many thanks in advance,  greetings and good light,  Klassika.
Advertisement Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 Hi Klassika, Take a look here Summicron 50 mm dual range with goggles. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ryzebake Posted May 23, 2024 Share #2  Posted May 23, 2024 Hi Klassika, I own a 50mm DR with goggles and it is my most used lens on my M11M. The 50mm DR and Rigid Crons render beautifully in B&W, it's really something special. My lens mounts without issue as long as the focus is set to infinity before attaching or detaching. My copy will not mount unless focus is set to infinity. I never use the goggles and you do not need the goggles to switch to close focus on the M11M. On my copy I simply lift the lens into close focus mode and press the button on top of the lens once to unlock the close focusing range. I use live-view from there on out. If you prefer to use the goggles and viewfinder, this is of course still an option. As far as I'm aware you can use the 50mm dual range without modification on the M11 series, whereas previously you needed to shave off part of the mount to allow for full focusing range. This is due to the new sensor design. All the above is based on my personal 50mm DR copy, which as far as I'm aware was not modified in any way. It is possible others have had different experiences but I'm fairly certain this should apply to any unmodified 50mm dual range and M11 series camera. Hope this helps! Best, A.
S Maclean Posted June 13, 2024 Share #3  Posted June 13, 2024 I believe this is correct.  There should be no issue with the M11 because the metering is straight from the sensor rather than the lens.  It is this element that was conlficting on other bodies.  That's my research on this item.  I am waiting for my DR to arrive to test
lct Posted June 13, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted June 13, 2024 I have no experience with this lens but the manual says it is incompatible. Just for info: LeicaM11_manual_34_lens.pdf
Churro Posted June 14, 2024 Share #5  Posted June 14, 2024 I also use a dual range summicron on my M11M and agree with everything Ryzebake said. Except I don’t need to only mount mine at infinity. I had read it needed to be past the 2 meter mark so that’s what I’ve always done without issue.
Klassika Posted June 14, 2024 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 14, 2024 Thanks all for your answers. I use it now on my silver M11 without problems, it gives a very nostagic look and feeling. It reminds me of the M3 which I had back in the day with the Rigid.
S Maclean Posted June 14, 2024 Share #7 Â Posted June 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can confirm it wors 100% witht the M11. On my copy I have to set the focus to 1 m to mount. Â After that you can use with or without goggles for close range. Goggles work well, but using the EVF or the screen works even better. IQ is phenomenal. DadDadDaddyo Posted December 10, 2024 Share #11 Â Posted December 10, 2024 My Dual Range lives on an M4. Just seems right there. It's a nice reminder to shoot film from time to time...

In my case I set it to 1 M, it seems other set it to infinity. Just work out how a specific copy mounts in case there is any difference in alignment copy to copy.  Great lens.  I actually sold my copy along with a few other things to cover the cost of the SL system (which is also great btw) It is the one lens I whish I had kept though.
