looks like it will be expensive, I'm happy with my AliExpress one for cold glove wearing days

The Air tag? functionality is to appeal to a weird subset of an already small market as any thief spotting it as Leica will surely ditch the accessories straight away? or is it to enable you to find the right camera in an overcrowded Hadley/Oberworth carry all?

PS I've not actually watched the video

Just because this is not appealing to you doesn't mean it can't be helpful. I have a friend that got his bike stolen at an event (wasn't locked) but had an AirTag on the Bike. He alerted the police and they chased the thiefs down. He got his bike back. So no, it's not useless unless they ditch the grip. But that usually doesn't happen straight away as they are fleeing the scene. I think there is merit in this product for people who are traveling or living in high crime areas.

Hi the description of the grip starts at 2.43 mins, and reference to availability with or without thumb-grip, at 8 mins.  I gather the  Kickstarter campaign will be announced in the near future.

Derek

You mean they havent made any yet???

Wow, He was lucky

I've had no joy with 2 'tagged' and U locked bikes in seemingly 'safe' surrounds.

The UK police not in the least bit interested!

I now resort to being actually on my bike(roadbike) or it locked in my line of sight(gravel, commuter) to keep safe.

If I really have to leave it I've got a very tatty old mtb which seems to be too unattractive/not worth the effort, locked also.

In the 1960s I had a bike that I used to ride all over London. i just chained it to the railings wherever I wanted to: outside public libraries, the Albert Hall or Wigmore Hall while I was at a concert, everywhere; and it was never molested at all. I guess it was so dowdy that it blended into the surroundings and nobody lusted after it. Now I have a Brompton and I wouldnt leave it anywhere. It is very irritating not being able to nip into a shop for a couple of minutes safe in the knowledge that my bike will be there when I emerge.

i would not take a chance with my Q3, with or without an expensive Apple tag!

it was at a race/event with lots of unattended high end carbon bikes. these gangs are making rounds in europe and just loading up the van and driving off to wherever reselling the bikes... I have an airtag on my commuter bike as well but at the same time am covered by insurance, same thing with the camera. I'm not that emotionally attached to a bike or a camera for that matter but everyone is different.

It's not a question of emotional attachment -- replacement cost of a lot of present day bikes (of the type without batteries) can be in the region of €2000 plus (and we wont mention the price of a new Q3...). I think you can only get insurance up to a limited age of bike.
