My Q3 crashes if I try to switch profile when the camera is still saving pictures.

The camera would black out, does not response to any buttons

This is reproducible to me.

Does it happy to anybody else?

x

was taking 5 pictures in a row or so, when the camera was still flushing its buffer onto SD card, I pressed the profile switch button.

Motivation, I wanted to switch profile and to keep taking more pictures

What do you mean by “saving pictures”?

Where are you saving them to?

How are you saving them?

Not sure why anyone would try to change profiles while the camera is still writing the images taken. Maybe try a faster card? If you already have a faster card then you’ll just have to live with it.

My motivation was to change profile and to continue on taking pictures as quickly as possible, and my expectation was that the camera is capable of saving pictures (flushing buffer) while changing profile independently. I couldn't get a hint that this was too much to expect.

Hi,

Everyone has told you not to do it, but no one has actually said if it crashes for them too :)

It doesn't crash when I do this. What FW version are you using? And what SD card?

I used a Delkin Power v90 card. I tried taking 10 single frame photos as quickly as I could and then immediately changing the profile. I also tried with a long sequence of 15 FPS continuous shots. This was using L-DNG and L-JPEG

Just tried this with my Q3 (firmware 2.0.1). I can change the profile while the camera is still saving a burst of photo to the memory card, and continue shooting afterwards. The million-dollar question is what settings might have made a difference in behaviour between your and my camera.

Many thanks for testing it guys.

Would it be ok if I share my profile for you to test? The profile changing key is the right thumb key
I just got a hint that my SD card is acting up. The camera prompted to format SD card. After several restarts, the message went away.

It is a Kingston Canvas React Plus 256gb

Installed your profile on my Q3. No problem, I can change the profile while the camera is saving a bunch of shots to the SD-card, and can continue to shoot after that. Tried it twice with a different profile. BTW, I changed the profile via the menu.

My suggestions:

  1. Update to the latest firmware, if you didn't already.
  2. Reset the camera to the factory settings. You already have a backup of your settings, even stored in this thread 😀.
  3. Try a different SD-card, if your present one is acting up. If one of my cards acts up more than once, I simply replace it and throw the old one away.

Attached is a copy of my settings. Good luck.

Many thanks for testing and the advice.

I will try the reseting approach. Likely, I will need a new SD card..

Kingston are generally regarded as "cheap" cards. My recommendation would be to stick with Sandisk or Lexar. Panasonic are highly regarded as well but I don't think offer a UHS II speed card, which Sandisk and Lexar do. U3 UHS-II is recommended if you are taking 4 or 8K video with the Q3.
