Servicing for vintage Leica in the UK

Hi all, I am in receipt of a vintage Leica (1960s?) from my father (I see I am not alone on this forum!)   It has green tarnish here and there and needs a good clean.   Last seen in use in the 1980s I think...   any suggestions on good places to get a vintage Leica serviced in the UK?   I have tried CameraObscura but it's difficult to get a response.  Any others or should I persist?

You dodged a bullet by not getting a response from Camera Obscura, put a line through his phone number and search the forum for his escapades.

There are others. I've used Newton Ellis on an 1895 TTH lens: https://www.newtonellis.com/leica/ and they do do Leica servicing. Aperture are a well known dealer who offer in house Leica repair: https://www.apertureuk.com/our-services/camera-repair/ There are others but its well worth asking about experiences here because someone here will have used most of the repairers who will service a Leica.

Be warned, many will have a long waiting time - demand is high and there are few repairers experienced in Leicas.

you may still have time to get simple repairs done. I asked them about a complex rebuild of an early Leica which they said they would not have time left to do.

I contacted Newton Ellis last week about cleaning an Old Delft lens. They said they could do it and had a bit more time, so if anyone has something that needs work there may still be time to get it done.

Also I am sending a Robot 2 to PPP Cameras for servicing. Pierro Pozella was on “The Repair Shop” on tv recently servicing a Robot camera. I don’t know how good he is with Leicas but he is worth a try, and he is a younger repairer so not about to retire.
