What a fantastic lens this is. Well I think it is.

Maclean,

The answer to how to take star pictures is a very sturdy tripod with a two second timer. Oh, and remember, if you turn off your SL3 you need to reset the 2 second timer since Leica took that away. Frankly, using LeicaFotos would be an aid to focusing, as finding infinity on an electronically manual lens is not easy in the dark. The LeicaFotos would allow me to enlarge the image better than just the camera screen I think. This is a thought after the fact. Also operating the camera in total darkness takes practice. Setting up a user setting for astro is useful. Remember to turn off AF touch, or you will disturb your infinity focus accidentally.  Per your request, here is the color version. There is a lot of LightRoom adjustments required as this does not come this way out of the camera. It is also adjusted to my taste, your colors probably would vary.

Firat time I take the SL3 to an event.  The Detroit City Dance Festival.  Used the 24-90.  I certainly would not have been able to capture some of these without a Zoom and autofocus.

Still had a little trouble deciding exactly how to setup the tracking.  I think the best option ended up being just Ac and body/face detection, or just simply Ac and field.  Setting it to track on either children/pets  or sports just had the point jumping around too much.

Now I know why the 24-90 is called by some very dimensional.  Specially in the color images (Did not keep any of the color for this event because the full sun in open area was just too flat) it sometimes makes images off camera fell like HDR, which is not my favorite look.  So I ma getting another copy of the 24-70 to compare them for a while as that lens was giving me a much more natural look.  I can see the 24-90 more for landscapes/ city scapes and more controlable events or street.  THe 24-70 probably better for something like a dance festival.  Even though some of my favorites ended up being at 90....
