I received a fast response from Nitro, very pleased with their support.

I didn't ask permission to post this, but I think it's OK in teh spirit of things...

Hi,

Nitro can straighten images, yes. It has a range of +/- 20 degrees when rotating in that manner.

To straighten an image, go to the Crop adjustment. There are two ways to do it.

  1. You can drag the straighten slider. The image may shift when you do that - I’m working on fixing that.
  2. You can use the straighten tool. That is the second icon from the left (it’s a line through a circle / Saturn). The straighten tool lets you draw a line on the image and it will rotate the image accordingly.

I hope that helps.

I tried it and it works but I noticed a strange behaviour.

As you rotate the image back and forth you start to lose more and more of the original image. It's as if the software crops the image to compensate for the rotation as you would expect, but when you reverse the rotation it crops it some more rather than undoing the previous rotation. So if you rotate back and forth it crops tighter and tighter until you've lost large areas of the image. I've not seen this behaviour in other imaging software but it is understandable why this happens at least. So you have to remember to revert if you find yourself having made too many rotational adjustments as there's no way back.

Attached is an example of an image of a 'thin building' in Paris. I rotated it and corrected the vertical perspective distortion. But in doing so I lost the message.
