sabears Posted March 13, 2024 Share #1  Posted March 13, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone knows when the transition from the DRP engraving made on the lower part of the top plate to the one in the central position occurred? Advertisement Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Hi sabears, Take a look here DRP engraving position. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted March 13, 2024 Share #2  Posted March 13, 2024 I think 1936, possible also 1935... my (quick) evidences are #172xxx with DRP on the lower position and #188.xxx in the upper... surely someone else can have a better/narrower "window", supposed that there is a "threshold s/n".

Sounds about right, Luigi. I have 172472 with DRP at the bottom and 240416 with DRP in the middle. I will have look to see if I have any that are closer with DRP in the middle. Being Leica, I would expect some overlap as they always used up existing parts eg, with the new viewfinder window frame introduced at around the same time, although that does not match the DRP move. PG Black nickel Posted March 15, 2024 Share #5  Posted March 15, 2024 Jerzy, but with Leica you can never be sure of solving the mystery ... the proof, if you look hard enough: older serial number and yet the "DRP" is in the middle!!!! and it's not an upgraded camera. Welcome, dear visitor!
