nuze Posted March 10, 2024 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) A couple questions for fellow Q3 users. 1. Do you guys use UV/protective filters to protect lens? I am using the lens hood and feels pretty safe but just want to know if you guys prefer to use it. 2. Battery usage is not as good as I expected. Averaged around 150 frames per 80% charge. Is this normal? I have almost everthing off. FOTOS connection is OFF, OIS OFF, using AFs. 3. Soft release button. To have it or no? Button seems a bit shallow maybe it will help? Decided to test for a week before I want to purchase accesories for the Q3 and I feel I might need these three. Other accesories such as baseplate and thumb grip do not seem important to me. Let me know what you guys think. Thank you!
Advertisement Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Hi nuze, Take a look here Questions after owning Q3 for a week. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Miltz Posted March 10, 2024 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2024 1. No 2. My battery life is excellent. The only time battery life plummets is iAF in video mode, which I never use anyway. 3. I have no issues and there is no need to pay for a soft release button. Very silly. Accessories are a PERSONAL thing, get what you want. You can't let others decide what you need for your experience. That being said, Leica accessories are completely a waste of money, the camera works perfect out of the box. These things are like when people put spoilers on a car that doesn't need it and it ends up looking ridiculous. Don't be the guy who gets all the brass stuff and then posts pictures of their camera on Facebook. LOL. Enjoy your new camera

The Leica accessories are a complete waste of money, the camera works perfectly without them and without any restrictions. In the end the whole thing just looks ridiculous. The only interesting thing would be a half case, for example from “Oberwerth German”. I highly recommend it. David Wien Posted March 10, 2024 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2024 1. Yes. I use a Hoya HD Mk.II Protector. 2. I have no problem with battery life, though it is probably similar to yours. 3. I have no need for one of these. I do have a thumb support, and a peakdesign cuff which make the camera more comfortable and safe to hold, and an Otect lens cap. Enjoy your Q3 and show us your pictures! David
andix Posted March 10, 2024 Share #5 Posted March 10, 2024 Don't use UV protection so far. Probably I should… Battery is not as good as with my Nikons…Z9 battery lasts forever in comparison. Might need a second battery soon Nope
JNK100 Posted March 10, 2024 Share #6 Posted March 10, 2024 Yes, I use the Leica UVa 2 filter for protection. It makes no difference to picture quality. Battery life settles down after a few full charge/discharge cycles. I only use std. strap and a Oberwerth half-case.
Le Chef Posted March 10, 2024 Share #7 Posted March 10, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1) Yes - UV 2) Batter life improves as you recharge it. 3) Soft release - meh! 4) Accessories - there are dozens of threads on this forum alone about straps, bags, thumb grips, hand grips, and likely Leica branded underwear etc. I suggest doing a search.

Let me know what you guys think. Thank you! 1. I use the Hoya EVO Antistatic filter, but I take it off when I'm doing critical work. It's also there for protection when I remove the lens hood for whatever reasons (changing filters, etc.) 2. The battery seems to be decent, but I am using a lot of the Leica Fotos app, so it's hard to tell. It does last me a whole day, but I always carry a spare. 3. No. I don't have any issue with the shutter release.

I never have with any of my other cameras, but the Q3 has a lens that just can't be replaced or changed so I have taken the move to ad a UV. Perhaps the novelty will wear off as the camera ages. 2. Battery IMO is very poor, for me that is. 3. I purchased the soft release button whilst visiting a Leica store......let's say it was an impulse purchase. As to the filter I use one for the same reason. If I damage a lens on an interchangeable lens system I lose the lens for two months…with the Q I lose the entire camera. It has been shown that a good quality filter does not degrade image quality. Edited March 10, 2024 by bobtodrick

nuze Posted March 11, 2024 Author Share #11 Posted March 11, 2024 Thank for your precious feedback guys! For the filters do you guys use 49mm or 52mm? I plan on using the lens hood as well. Do you put lens hood on top of the filter?

This lousy snap shows the filter and the thread for the lens hood. Welcome, dear visitor!
