Concerning the USB-C DC-Coupler DC-SCL6: The big powerbank arrived today and it is not working with the coupler. SL2-s simply won't switch on. This only works when using a DC adapter, which is not an option for me. This is one of the points where I regret having left Sony for Leica. Damn...

Which powerbank?

I would contact Leica and ask them about using a powerbank with DC-SCL6.

It is this one: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0B7438Q2Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Yes, I just called customer support and the person able to answer this will call me back.

Test OUT3? Leica supports 3A 5V about 15W.. OUT3 is similarly specced. There is a cable USB-A to USB-C

Ask a shop to test well-known brands of powerbanks like Anker, Belkin etc.

I looked at the website of INIU powerbank

OUT1 5V=3A 9V=3A 12V=3A 16V=3A 20V=3.25A 65W(Max)
OUT2 5V=4.5A 4.5V=5A 9V=3A 12V=2.5A 30W(MAX)
OUT3 5V=4.5A 4.5V=5A 9V=2A 12V=1.5A 22.5W(Max)

Test OUT1 so you can run 3A

From Leica website for AC adapter

I had a call with Mr. Wolf from Leica Wetzlar and he tested the coupler with various powerbanks or batteries matching the specs of the AC adapter. None of the powerbanks/batteries worked and he said, that the coupler only works with the Leica AC power adapter or similar, like my Airbook charger.

i find it ridiculous and it is almost worth switching back to Sony system. 🤷‍♂️

That’s what I said to the Leica contact, that I regret having switched from Sony to Leica.

The workaround is to use the powerbank on the standard USB-C port of the SL2 to simply support the battery

The battery you are using does not provide enough power.

DC-SCL6 used with USB-C cable and video battery I can film uninterrupted for 2.5/h including the 7" monitor.

I am using the NEEWER V Mount Battery 6800mAh 99Wh  in US $125

this one works fine too, but it does not have a mount Zendure 100W Laptops Power Bank, 26800mAh USB C Portable Charger with Dual USB-C PD

Okay, thank you. I ordered the Zendure, since I don’t need a V-Mount. Gets here on Tuesday, I’ll update you on this.

The Zendure arrived today and it does not work either. I give up and will send all items back. I'll help myself by supporting the batteries through the USB-C connector on the side of the camera to extend battery life. First tests show, that one battery will last approx. 4 to 5 hours without power saving and app connection active. That will be sufficient for me.

Believe me, I tried various cables and all ports on the Zendure - nothing worked.

I am sort of satisfied with the option to support the battery with connecting a power bank to the USB-C port of the camera.

Thanks for all the good recommendations and answers to my questions.

Which would the probably 90% or more of Magnum photographers who shoot with Leica cameras be?

This is not 1985.

That figure is...not correct. Or even close. Sure, some own a digital M or Q for their "fun" cameras. The SL line is not widely adopted. It is still mostly Sony, Nikon, Canon. Red dots are not used for jobs most of the time.

Leica does not make their money from professionals. They make their money from their luxury brand positioning and wealthy customers. They use their history of being associated with documentary photography to sell their current stuff, but the tools are not widely used in the field anymore.

Yes, there are a few professionals who own them, but it is a very, very small minority and for good reason. Excessive cost, poor professional support, comparatively low reliability, etc.

Beautiful cameras when all is going well, though.

That's true of every camera brand, except possibly PhaseOne. As the old saying goes: "90% of professionals use Hasselblad, 90% of Hasselblads are sold to amateurs." I heard that when I was a teenager, and the first part probably wasn't true: Hasselblad was commonly used by pros, but they didn't have a 90% market share. Nevertheless, the gist is true: even so-called "professional" systems are mostly sold to amateurs. Leica is in the same boat as everyone else.

This was confirmed to me when I was doing weddings. Guests almost always brought more "professional" gear than paid photographers did! There's always an uncle or two with full pro Canon/Nikon kits and all the 5-figure lenses, who want to interrupt you and ask basic questions. Worse case, they try to shoot during the ceremony and block everyone's view (which is a no-no for professionals). These "uncles" are always different, but the working pros are the same every week, so it's easy enough to figure-out that there's a whole lot of pro kit out there sold to hobbyists.

I'd quite agree.

My only point was the lament that Leica isn't making stuff that stands up to the rigors of "professional" use for many despite marketing that may suggest such - is to gloss over what Leica is as a brand and how the position themselves. Sony, Nikon, Canon etc are a bit different in that while they make gear that does stand up to professional use more reliably, they have more robust professional support systems that are well utilized by all of the professionals that do need them, and don't market themselves in a way that positions them like a Rolex watch.

For one tiny example - I was speaking with a well regarded Italian photojournalist the other day about one of his projects that was recently widely published....he used a Canon 6d and had no intent to replace it. He's the norm - lots of people using several generation old cameras at this point.

He did have one Leica! It was a digilux.
