Photoworks Posted March 8, 2024 Share #1  Posted March 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a few things I have noticed. The 8Sinn cage can fit, but there is no way to get out a battery. Drilling the mounting hole a few mm over would solve it. I was able to get it to work but using the Dummy battery and the 100W power bank. HDMI on 4K 24p has a huge delay, It feels more than using the Wifi transmitters. Maybe if I turn the audio over HDMI off it will be better. The CF express  B 1TB card from Angelbird is working well for 4K videos 1
Advertisement Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Hi Photoworks, Take a look here SL3 for Video. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
opera207 Posted March 8, 2024 Share #2  Posted March 8, 2024 (edited) Why choose a path that makes your life harder? Wouldn't the Panasonic s52 with v-log be better for video? Better video menu & functions, more accessories, better log, faster read out speed. The body only costs less than $2,000, you can use the $5,000 you save to buy several lenses, including SL APOs. Btw, Panasonic 24-70 f2.8 s pro is very good for video, AF is silent & fast, also the new Panasonic 100mm Macro is very interesting. TBH I would much rather see info on this thread about the SL3 video than "why don't you get brand XXX?". Most of us are well capable of making that judgement (and I have done), based on criteria that you may not even have considered. Photoworks Posted March 8, 2024 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 8, 2024 the conversation should be about what can i do with my SL3, and how can I do it. Since it is a Leica forum. Saying to use another camera is not helpful if you are looking for an answer. L-Log is very good and can be used in real video production. but I will never be the only camera if your only job is video.

tomasis7 Posted March 8, 2024 Share #8  Posted March 8, 2024 (edited) someone can verify 30ms sensor readout for 24p 4k? I saw it in Sebs post. Sl2 has a lower readout, 16ms. Edited March 8, 2024 by tomasis7

How did you determine the ISO values for the photo mode? The lowest value for Auto-ISO is still 100, not 50. I assume ISO 50 is still a "fishy" ISO :). With CFb, I would be more inclined to record in-camera and plug-in a cheap 4K monitor as-needed. The flip screen removes the need for an external monitor in many situations. Photoworks Posted March 8, 2024 Author Share #14  Posted March 8, 2024 I am seeing a strange green cast in some black in l-Log. It is only in some codex, not all. but still not cool. Geoff C. Bassett Posted March 9, 2024 Share #16 Â Posted March 9, 2024 Crazy that the camera is also missing the WB lock feature from the SL2 and SL2s that was added via firmware. It's a great feature.
PeterBoyadjian Posted March 9, 2024 Share #17  Posted March 9, 2024 After 1600 iso I am getting quite a bit of noise. Think I might just stick to the S5II for video unless I'm doing something wrong here. AF is working quite nicely.
Geoff C. Bassett Posted March 9, 2024 Share #18  Posted March 9, 2024 (edited) Tried it out a bit at the Leica store. Dynamic range in video does not seem better than the SL2, and worse than the SL2s. Rolling shutter is bad, crops are annoying, battery seemed to drain even faster than my SL2. I will say the colors are absolutely excellent, definitely a step up from the SL2 in video. 1080p prores I actually really like the look of (Sample attached) Overall, don't think it's worth it for video. It takes better photos than the SL2 & SL2s, but the video is just a big step down. Unless you're okay with 1080p. Hope they bring this color science forward into a SL3-s with better video features. Etto72 Posted March 9, 2024 Share #19  Posted March 9, 2024 Can the SL 3 shoot 8k 10bit 422? Or is it only 420? I found hard to understand why with the Cfa card Leica is only having ProRes at 1080😳😳😳😳

One body for the SL3 and eventual SL3s to save on long term production costs.
