gotium Posted February 19, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) On my a7cR I have a custom button to set to toggle between eye/face-detect and spot AF. It is incredibly useful. Similarly I have another button set to toggle silent shutter on/off. Anyone know how to do this with the Q3? I can't see a way.
Advertisement Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Hi gotium, Take a look here Q3: toggle focus settings with custom button?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Wellsyboy Posted February 19, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 19, 2024 (edited) Yes - first pick a button - you can restrict the number of options on that button using the Customize Control option in page 4 of the main menu. Switch off all the options you do not want to see - make sure AF Mode is set to on. Then when you press and hold the chosen custom button you will see your options - select AF Mode - once you have done this every time you short press that custom button you will be in AF Mode and you just use the left and right cursors to select your mode. Hudson Henry has a you tube video that explains this very well see here Leica Q3 Setup Video & Full Menu Guide" width="200"> Or you can select it from the quick menu Edited February 20, 2024 by Wellsyboy

Hit it again and have it switch back from single point to eye-AF. It's really very, very useful to not have to go into the menu.

I don't think you can do that but it does seem the quickest way to get into that option. Then you only have to shift up or down to select the appropriate mode.
Michele Belloni Posted February 20, 2024 Share #5 Posted February 20, 2024 Sadly only Sony allow this kind of customization. I own A1, A9II and A7C and all of these camera can be setup with, for example, AF ON to activate the EYE AF on the fly while i press it. The only thing you can do is set up one button to change AFS/AFC (the center one in the back pad for me) and another one to change the mode to EYE/FACE/BODY (one of the top customizable in the back). It's a long way and it's not comparable to Sony sadly.
LocalHero1953 Posted February 20, 2024 Share #6 Posted February 20, 2024 (edited) This has been one of my grumbles about Leica firmware since they first introduced button customisation. On the SL2-S I want exactly what you want (and I have wanted it in previous cameras): switch from Face Detect to Spot (or, for me, Field) with a single press. But it is not possible - it is the same as the Q3. I have one of the front buttons on the SL2-S set to AF mode, and the other set to Focus mode (iAF or MF) but both require a press, then a move and press with the joystick: three actions. In a hurry, it's painful. I wonder if this is something fundamental in Leica's firmware family: button customisation can only take you to a particular place in the menu, it can't actually make select a menu option. So you can confirm that on the SL2(s) this change on the fly is possible? Because I want to sell everything and buy the SL3 with a 75 f2 APO but I really need to have 100% confirm about this function. Thanks a lot.

You can do what @Wellsyboy suggests, but that still takes three actions: press button, joystick select, press joystick. I've edited my earlier post for clarity. Michele Belloni Posted February 20, 2024 Share #9 Posted February 20, 2024 I apologize, I read quickly and understood the complete opposite. It will be quite a dilemma to abandon the entire Sony system for an SL3 then (and not only for this function, of course).

I can do it on my Canon R5 by having dual back button focus programming 2 of the back buttons to normal AF and eye tracking AF. It would be nice if the firmware could allow for this to happen - maybe a suggestion to Leica? Being a Leica newbie I am not aware as to whether they have a "suggestion box"?
ianforber Posted February 20, 2024 Share #13 Posted February 20, 2024 As already said, the behaviour requested isn’t possible atm. I have my user profile selection set using the thumb wheel- a short press brings up my user profile and I just rotate to choose the one I want. Could you have a profile that uses whatever parameters you need and select quickly that way? Still clunky though.

gotium Posted February 21, 2024 Author Share #15 Posted February 21, 2024 The best I can get it down to is six button pushes - that includes four to scroll through the menu 😕

Digital Zoon and Perspective control let you select a menu option.
