Pierre68 Posted February 7, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello every one. I have a Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN Sport which I like a lot. But sometimes I would like the background to be more blurred. At f/6.3 background is still very detailed and sometime distracting. So I was wondering what you guys use as fast tele lenses on the SL2/SL2-S ? By tele I mean 300 to 600mm and by fast I mean f/2.8- f/4 Canon EF long teles seem to be available used at relatively low prices but I was wondering how the AF functions with an adapter like Sigma MC-21 Any of you would like to share their experience with such long lenses on the SL? Thanks Pierre

jbb Posted February 7, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2024 I have experienced the combination of Sigma 500/4 (Canon EF mount) and Sigma MC-21 with SL2 and it works perfectly. mainly in Safari, only the weight is a bit too high...

Thanks Pierre Search the SL2 and SL2-S image threads for @michali; he has used Canon 400mm f4 DO v2 quite a bit with the Sigma MC-21 adapter. The mentioned Canon-lens is optically outstanding, but forget af (slow, not very reliable).

Interesting; is the auto focus quick/reliable?
jbb Posted February 8, 2024 Share #5 Posted February 8, 2024 AF is reliable and not too slow for such a big lens (but not as quick as the 90-280). sometimes, if you loose focus then the usual back and forth... but you can easily manually override.
TeleElmar135mm Posted February 9, 2024 Share #6 Posted February 9, 2024 Perhaps if the rumor is not a fake, the Sigma 500mm f5,6? https://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/leaked-lightweight-sigma-500mm-f-5-6-e-and-l-mount-lens-will-be-announced-on-february-21/

Some additional/recycled 😉 info here (1.5 kg, fast af): https://www.l-rumors.com/new-leaks-and-more-info-about-the-upcoming-sigma-500mm-f-5-6-lens/

Thanks Pierre I use three canon ef lenses with the mc-21 adapter. The 200 f2, 400 do ii, and 600 f4 is ii all very sharp wide open which is what I shoot with them 90% of the time. No continuous AF works with the Leica cameras and sigma mc-21 adapter. Single af works fine and is quick without extenders. Image quality with the 1.4x iii is great. The 2.0x iii is very good but slows af. I'm going to sell the 400 now that I added the 600. The 200 and 600 with extenders can do it all. I may buy an R3 for quicker action as the Leica cameras can’t pull this duty for my needs even with native SL lenses. Robb
