The items discussed here has been (separately) seen on this forum, but a direct comparison has never been done.

For quite obvious reason (the possibility of and easy mount of filters, especially PL) I would like to replace the original Q3 hood with a vented one. Excluding a priori both the original Leica as well the Overgaard for their insane price (I can't see a real justification for that madness), the remaining possibilities looks like to be two: JJC and Haoge. Both have already be seen here, anyway here are the links to get them from Amazon (black version):

JJC: https://www.amazon.com/JJC-Cameras-Replaces-Center-Vignetting/dp/B0CL25Y5FB?sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY

Haoge: https://www.amazon.com/Haoge-Metal-Typ116-Camera-LH-LQOB/dp/B0CD43VTGY

They looks like very, very similar (apparently  there are very slight differences in the specs), so I'm undecided between one of them. Maybe there are differences which are not obvious on Amazon, but instead important in reality (even some review say that they could cause vignetting... something quite strange to me)

I would like to get opinions before choose one of them.

(The ideal would be if someone had had the opportunity to compare both them directly, but this, frankly, seems quite unlikely to me)

What do you think about these hoods?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

I bought the black version of the jjc  It came with a lens cap and a means of attaching this to the camera. The only problem is that my fingers are too large to change filters without taking the lens hood off, but I dont use any other than a protective neutral one anyway. I often use the camera without a lens hood, but with the JJC lens cap. But the reason why I can get away with this may be because we havent had any serious sun here since I got my Q3 at the end of November! 😀

I have the Haoge and it’s ok but I use it very rarely so can’t really comment on it with much knowledge. It’s still fiddly to get filters on and off or rotate a polariser and the lens is pretty resistant to flare so I just go hoodless

Just for information, when I get the Q3 43 I’ll probably keep a protect filter (B+W quality) permanently on the lens.  Does the Haoge or JJC round hood screw into this or does it engage with the outer thread on the lens? I’m assuming the latter. Interested to know.  Thanks..

Wise decision. Haoge (and I think JCC too) screws in place of the original Leica hood (which use a different thread than the filter mount) , so you can mount any 49mm filter without involving the hood thread.

FWIW I have used a round vented hood for several years on my prior Q2 and Q3 and only occassionally have a bit of dust on the lens.  I keep a bulb type blower in the bag in that case.  I also keep a pinch cap on the lens when not in use.  That works for me.  Both the JJC and Haoge lens hoods look good and should allow access to filters without removing the hood.

Vented hood will not take better pics for you, but will for sure let the dust settle on the lens

Hmmm...have used vented hoods on various Leica glass since the 90's...never had a problem with dust.

Hmmm, odd comment considering I think this is the first time I’ve commented on a post of yours.
