01maciel Posted February 4, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Darktable only has a niche existence, because there are many stories on the Internet about its complexity and that you can't get the best out of your images when used. But it's certainly good enough for my hobby. And just in case there are some other users on the LUF, I'm interested in how you sharpen your photos. There are various options for sharpening in darktable, which can be used depending on the original image. If I need to quickly sharpen an image and it is suitable for this methold, I simply apply a preset in the "diffuse and sharpen" module, which I have saved once. And this is what it looks like, before and after. The second image looks a bit oversharpened because the individual pebbles in the concrete structure are now clearly to see - but I don't think it is really oversharpenend. Hans-Dieter Gülicher Posted February 4, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 4, 2024 Since 2005 I am taking dng-photos (R9+DMR, Q2, M 10-R and S3), development Adobe-ACR/-Photoshop. I am using these pictures for prints (layout and design by inDesign) up to A3+ (exhibitions workshops) and HDAV-presentations 4500 x 3000 px. See my pictures shown in this forum. 250swb Posted February 5, 2024 Share #3 Posted February 5, 2024 From the example of the second photo there seems to be much more than sharpening going on, more like Clarity (Adobe) or Structure (DxO) is being applied as well.

Interesting conjecture. The only difference between the two images is the "diffuse and sharpen" module. As you can see in the illustration, the module can be very finely adjusted. 01maciel Posted February 8, 2024 Author Share #5 Posted February 8, 2024 Another option to sharpen an image is the module "diffuse and sharpen". The manual says it is “highly resource intensive” and “OpenCL is therefore strongly recommended”. The diffuse or sharpen module uses a generalized physical model to describe several kinds of diffusion, and can be used to either simulate or revert diffusion processes. This is my preferred method to sharpen images, see red box right hand side. Before (fit to screen) Welcome, dear visitor!
