monTeur Posted January 25, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everybody, I just came across the website of ARRI (for those of you who don't know: it's a big cinema camera, lens and light manufacturer from Germany). They build the Arri Alexa camera as a monochrom version, which I guess is similar in sensor design as Leica does for photography (increased resolution, higher dynamic range, more light sensitive...). One thing I can't find anywhere is: do the Leica monochrom cameras also have no IR filter and that's the reason why they render highlights and shadows in a different way? In all the reviews out there, no one is talking about that point specifically. Here's the link to the ARRI website: https://www.arrirental.com/en/cameras/exclusive-cameras/alexa-monochrome-cameras Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted January 25, 2024 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2024 That is incorrect. The M cameras do have an IR filter. However the effectiveness is between 70 and 85% varying by model due to technical reasons. This makes the camera suitable for limited IR use but it is by no means comparable to true IR enabled cameras. 1
Jeff S Posted January 27, 2024 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2024 Probably more like 50% effective in the M8/M8.2. Jeff

Pintpot Posted March 5, 2024 Share #6 Posted March 5, 2024 Hi, Heliopan 695. They make a range of 3 IR filters. Worth checking out on the web. You may need a tripod for the denser IR filters and shoot at high ISO. This one at 3200. Obviously a bright sunny day is best. If you can focus with live view that's best. Cheers!
