Hi folks, new to the forum and a lot of great information. I just acquired a used Q2 Monochrom and the firmware that is currently showing is 2.0. Actually, I have 2 very naive questions: do I need to install all previous firmware upgrades (3 and 4) or do I just install current 5.1 firmware ? .... my real issue is that I go to the Leica site an download the current firmware then have my SD card in the card reader but the file that downloaded takes me to Lightroom ... I'm confused. Can someone please tell help me, I don't know what I'm missing. Thank you, Curt

You can download and install the latest firmware without bothering about intermediate ones. What is your card doing in the reader? It is supposed to be in the camera. Format the card, download the file and pop the card into the camera. Follow the instructions to the letter.

Hi JAAPV .. thanks for taking the time to help me. I'm following the directions on the Leica website. According to the steps involved , I;m downloading the file on my computer and the SD card needs to be in a card reader to download that file too. Then you put it in the camera and scroll to update firmware. The file shows up in my downloads but ut doesn't ask to unzip it .. when I double click to open it, it takes me to Lightroom. Its very strange. I guess I don't know how to open the file that I downloaded from Leica on my iMac.

You don't "unzip" the downloaded file, just drag it onto your SD card that has been formatted in the camera.  Confirm that he "file" is exactly as the version you have downloaded.  Now eject the card and install it in the camera to complete the process.  Good Luck....

I downloaded the file to a computer drive and then unzipped it. I then copied the .lfu file to the root of an SD that had previously been reformatted in the camera, and put the SD card in the Q3. When I turned on, the Q3 went into its act and completed successfully a couple of minutes later. I'd be interested to know whether the camera is able to unzip the zip file...

Folks .... THANK YOU !!!! ... after posting my initial question it linked a few other threads asking the same question. In one of those threads someone mentioned if you were using an iMac that it could be a little funky, and it was !!!  Sometimes thinking that I know more than I really do makes me laugh at myself in the end. Apparently there is a little drop down box with a bunch things and in the middle of it is the word 'copy' !!!! guess what that does ? It copies the file to the SD card !! .... Finally figured it out and the update loaded just fine. Again, thank you for taking the time to keep me on point.

I bought a second-hand Leica Q2 in December and have loved it since the first minute I held it in my hand. Today I realized that the firmware 1.1 was installed. After updating to the latest version 5.1 it is yet another modern experience.

Ah - I did not realize that you had a computer problem, not a camera one…For future reference you can just drag the downloaded file onto the SD card ( you’ll see a little green plus sign)  and it will copy automatically.

Sorry , I wasn’t very clear because I wasn’t really sure where the issue lied. Apparently it was with me … PC’s let you drag and drop but Apple makes you work for it and they like all these drop down boxes , I was not seeing the little green plus sign … it was me and I’m glad it was a simple fix … I really like my Leica Q when I bought it used and now the Leica Q2M (used but well loved) … again, I appreciate the assist !
