Alan Siqueira Posted January 21, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) sorry for the quality of the pics, my cellphone has a shit camera. I notice this little thing on the path of my shutter. At first jut though it was some dirty, but it seems that is a piece of the light seal of the shutter. Anybody here had this kind problem before? The shutter seems to be working just fine. Thanks for the any helpfull opinion Welcome, dear visitor! a.noctilux Posted January 21, 2024 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2024 Can you take it out with a pair of tweezers ? As is, you would see a "shadow" in your negatives. 😏 If it doesn't show in negatives, just leave it there.
Alan Siqueira Posted January 21, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted January 21, 2024 It's part of the camera. I can't take it out. Just don't know how bad this can become
mujk Posted January 22, 2024 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2024 Is the small piece visible either from the front or back also when the shutter is closed and is it then in the same place? If so, is the place the same when the shutter is cocked and not cocked? If the piece moves or is visible only in some situations it could be related to one of the shutter ribbons. If it stays in the same place all the time it could be the velvet light seal that has come loose. In both cases you will have to send it in for repair. 250swb Posted January 22, 2024 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2024 If it’s a velvet light seal that’s made from a flexible material it’s strange problem, usually the velvet wears until they need replacing but don't pucker up like that. Either way it is a simple servicing issue to have the shutter light seals replaced, although more expense and frustration.

The two light seals are located above and below the film gate, glued to the metal baffle. They should be of some black velvety material approx. as long as the film gate is wide and some mm:s wide. According to your images it looks like one of the seals is completely loose with one end pointing into the film gate. In that case it might be possible to remove it without opening the camera. The risk is of course that it is stuck to the shutter (ribbon), but then I think it would move when the shutter is cocked/opened/closed. I don't know the source of stray light the lower seal is supposed to protect against because there are no openings in the lower part of ghe body. The upper seal protects against stray light coming in through the windows in the top cover. When new my M6TTL had a missing or incorrectly installed upper seal, causing a small light leak in rare situations. So at least in that case the camera was quite usable without the seal. I'm gonna need to send to repair, but here in Brazil that's the problem.
madNbad Posted January 23, 2024 Share #9 Posted January 23, 2024 When Leica introduced the MP, they mad a change to the shutter seals from fabric to polyester. The new seals stay flexible and don't degrade like the older fabric ones.
