Borna Posted January 15, 2024 Share #1  Posted January 15, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Saw that there was no own sharepoint/topic for this lens so I thought to start one. I am about to acquire one and I would like to know your story and insights about this lens. Mostly to be used with my M6. One thing I am curious about, is all models made from 1990 to 2007 the same in terms of optics? I read something about the later versions being better. Some more info about the lens can be found here: https://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/90mm_f/2.8_Elmarit-M
Advertisement Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Hi Borna, Take a look here Elmarit 90mm f2.8 - 11807 & 11808. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pgk Posted January 15, 2024 Share #2 Â Posted January 15, 2024 Can be a very good lens indeed. However check for any sign of decentring as this can happen (I've had a decentred one). This will show up as softness on one or both sides at full aperture at infinity usually. That aside I cannot really fault the lens. My current copy is a bit used but delivers excellent image quality throughout it apertures with very marginal indeed drop of performance at minimum focus. Its a highly competent lens with good balance and ergonoimcs and a good copy will have few downsides if any. I cannot remember reading anything about changed optics during its production run. robsonj Posted January 15, 2024 Share #3  Posted January 15, 2024 (edited) This lens was actually my first Leica lens, I had other M mounts at the time, but this was my first Leica, bought it off of eBay about 5 years ago, mine is from 1998, I'd say its in excellent condition and 6bit coded, came with a Leica UV filter also. Got it for $600 at the time, which I thought then was a good deal. I don't use it a lot and ironically I had it out yesterday for the first time in quite a while, but generally its a good performer, seems to work better on my M11 than it did on my M10r... Thankyou, I'm a real sucker for minimalist shots, so when I saw that I had to stop, even though it was -10f outside the car! Practically, those signs came into their own in that weather, without them, that corner was virtually invisible!

AndreasG Posted February 20, 2024 Share #8 Â Posted February 20, 2024 Focal length 95mm (name plate is 90, but actually 95)
Michael Geschlecht Posted February 21, 2024 Share #9  Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) Hello Everybody, The small 2 digit number, at a right angle to the other numbers on the focusing barrel of some lenses, starting about 1959, is the last 2 digits of the ACTUAL focal length of that individual lens, measured in 1/10ths of a millimeter. But, without the decimal point. So: A lens marked 90mm which has as small "95" at a right angle to the other numbers on the focusing barrel: Would have an actual measured focal length of 89.5mm Because the decimal point is not used on the 2 small numbers at a right angle to the other numbers.
