jhluxton Posted November 23, 2007 Share #1  Posted November 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having received notification last weekend that my trusty D2 had suffered sensor failure I decided to take up the D3 upgrade offer and sent off my response requesting the upgrade.  Upto yesterday my card had not been debited and as yet no D3 - can anyone advise typical turn around time from Milton Keynes?  Thanks  John

dugby Posted November 23, 2007 Share #2  Posted November 23, 2007 Hey John,... After my D2 sensor died 3weeks before a major family holiday to Tokyo, Paris and London,..I urgently bought a D3 / L1 to capture the travels (I 'd bought a D-Lux2 as a backup, and didn't want that to be the primary camera).  For the first 2 days, I thought it was a big mistake.....as the camera seemed very "slow" and the images seemed no different than those of my dearly-departed D2. It took me a good 1-2 weeks of changing settings on the camera.   My most recent conclusion about setting up a new D3 or L1  a) Make sure V2.0 Firmware is installed, this seems to have major reworks on the in-camera production of the JPEGs  If you want a FAST shooting camera,....Set AutoFocus to "Centre only"  c) The Auto White Balance......in NOT as good as setting the WB manually. The software engineers really need to work on fixing a new Firmware version for AWB to a level of what the D2 can do with AWB.  d) OIS to mode 2.  e) If you want a non-bling-bling looking camera case.... hunt down a "Crumpler Zieube", these are very low cost.... a very humble looking at UKP15.00  f) Finally be prepared for the fact that any external flash that you had working on the D2, is NOT compatible with the D3 / L1 ............sigh..  Now that my D2 has a new sensor.........My best images are nearly always from the L1.... They are higher resolution, sharper, more bokeh, much less digital-noise than those from my D2, However there are many times where I need my D2 for when I want to be unobtrusive with it's zero mechanical noise.
