1234 Posted January 6, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) M240 not used for couple of months. Has 95% battery capacity. It was not properly responsive when turned on. It would display old photos but not take new ones. All that appears in the viewfinder is a single red "1" or "I" near bottom center. Reset did not help. Taking out battery a few minutes did not help. Firmware was 2.0.6.0. I decided to try installing the latest firmware 2.1 but cannot do that because I cannot turn the camera off! You need to insert the proper SD card and while holding down the INFO button, then turn it ON. But it is already ON. The OFF, S, and C detents of the rotary power switch feel and sound good. It's just that the mechanical off position does not seem to tell the electronics/firmware that it is in the off position. (A mechanical failure of the switch contacts seemed less likely but I am interested to hear if that is an incorrect presumption.) Also tried three different Leica batteries with charge levels down to 60%. The Menu, Info, ISO, and Play buttons all work properly when the camera is set to OFF. No shutter release or viewfinder display whether ON or OFF. I realize this is not the latest camera but it is adequate for my purposes and has great sentimental value and workmanship no longer seen. My first M3 was in 1962.

They replied via email that I must be sent it to shop for actual inspection and assessment (I'm not sending yet), and no answer that can fix or not. Guess that symtom just happened many cases recently maybe aging and shop also no experience on that. For my personal opinion if have many cases Leica should study and geting knowledge to solve that soon. (hopefully)
jaapv Posted February 13 Share #9 Posted February 13 I don’t think so. It is quite normal for a repair service to want to see the problem before offering a solution.
wxchue Posted June 9 Share #10 Posted June 9 Anyone have this issue solved? I just gotten a pre-owned M240 last 2 weeks and I tried the camera which is working fine without having any issue on the spot. After 5 days without bringing it outdoor, when I insert the battery the camera turn on without toggling "on". The back menu and buttons are still working, but the top plate shutter button, shutter speed dial and setting wheel are not working. The viewfinder have a "I" red led indicator lid on all the time. The camera won't turn it off and the battery have to be removed in order to shut the camera. But... weird thing is after letting the camera sit for a week time, the camera revived and function as per normal. However, after a day only, the same issue came back. I recharged the battery to 100% with the charger, but the camera battery indicator still showing 75%. Anyone of here or Leica expert that can explain this issue? Will it be the old battery condition or related to the top plate PCB or main board issue? Thank you.
Xtophe Posted October 5 Share #11 Posted October 5 (edited) Same issue here. Just happened. I have recharged all batteries and tried. The camera does not turn off. I cannot take pictures or clean sensor. But I can view what is on memory card. Very frustrating. Does anyone have a solution? In my case the camera shows 15% even if full. I have tried with 2 fully charged batteries.Based on what I read from previous posts, should I try to leave camra stand with no batteries inserted, or have camera stand with a battery iinside that will have to fully discharge?
