I'm periodically getting the effect shown in the attached images.  With the latest firmware and across different SD cards and RAW developers.  A full resolution undamaged JPG can be extracted using the 'RawPreviewExtractor' app - but I can't usefully process the damaged DNGs.

Any bright ideas?

It looks to me like the writing process from the DNG file was corrupted/interrupted at some point. Do you shoot in DNG+JPG sometimes? And did it happen with the JPEG files?
Since DNG files are so much larger, chances are that the JPEG will often be fine. The sensor seems to have captured the image correctly if your preview image was fine, so experimenting with DNG+JPEG could help mitigate the risk and help diagnosing the issue.

Does this have something to do with the charge status of the battery? If it occurs just before it is completely empty, that could explain these glitches. Just guessing of course...
