There is a Jacques Henri Lartigue exhibition at the Fondation Folon in La Hulpe / Ter Hulpen Belgium until 14th January 2024.

More info here. The foundation is located in the grounds of the Château de La Hulpe aka Château Solvay.

A few of us will be meeting up for a visit to the Lartigue exhibition and Folon museum on Friday 12th. Weather permitting a stroll in the park is also planned as is lunch at La Taverne de l’Homme Bleu which is in the same location.

Of course everyone is welcome to join us and if interested please let me know and I will add you to a group discussion.

Although the Château is not open to the public, the park is freely accessible, very big with some interesting photo ops.

Here are a few examples of mine…

Lovely series of photographs! Thanks very much for sharing them.

Lartigue really was rather special and to quite an extent his photographs capture this individualistic personality. I know you will all enjoy the exhibition and have a lot of fun. I only wish I could be there too!

Philip.

A big thanks to Ian and Natalie to host us (Roger and I) in La Hulpe. The Lartigue exhibition was very nice and the extensive explanations with the photos gave a further insight in his life. Tomorrow is the last day of that exhibition so if you're interested you need to be swift.

After that the Folon museum as well as the park around Castle La Hulpe (Chateau Solvay) were excellent additions so the total made up a very nice day. And the traffic between Antwerp and Brussels was very quiet, especially for a friday, so going there and coming back was a breeze.

More photos will follow, especially the ones with my M2 will have to wait until I complete and develop the film but I can start with a few digital captures.

As you may know Lartigue was obsessed with trying to capture speed in a static photo. Here's two well known examples, the first with gravel flying around and the second a demonstration what a slow focal plane shutter does with a fast moving racecar while panning. They put these on a slanted panel which I thought was a nice touch, because Lartige often slanted his photos in order to increase the sense of speed, allthough these two examples seem quite straight.

Also a big thanks to Ian and Nathalie for the hosting, and Pieter for the drive. The Lartigue exhibition was impressive, indeed not to be missed. The Folon museum in itself is also worth a visit. I will definitely visit the beautiful park at La Hulpe Castle again. One of the pictures taken in the park (X-Vario).

^^ Nice view of the inner court of the Folon foundation Roger, I might have something similar like that in latent form on my film, hope to finish and develop that quickly.

Here's a digital capture from the park that got some extensive PP (Orton effect), which I think fitted the scene

A page from my small collection of famous photographers’ autographs.

All the photographers I asked back in the early 80’s are dead now. It’s more than 40 years ago! Before the internet and worries about confidentiality you could go to the public library and look them up in the international “Who’s Who”, with their addresses.
