Anyone here tried to use Leica Q3 as a landscape camera? For those of you who did - what is your opinion? Is it too constraining?

perfect. but note that I usually use 40-70mm for landscape, sometimes can require cropping

This is Sienna with a Q2

Here is a Q3 gallery I have on my site. Most of the images are landscapes. I've probably sold more landscapes than any other category (I am a full time photographer) And I love shooting landscapes with my Q3. I almost always have my Q3 with me, whereas, I generally only bring my X-T5 bodies (one visible light, one infrared) and set of lenses when going out to shoot at a specific location/travel or for a specific reason. With 60MP I don't hesitate to shoot at tighter crops. The only place I suck wind is at longer focal lengths. I just find compositions that work well with wide and normal focal lengths when my Q3 is what I have with me. I use the 35mm and 50mm crop lines quite a bit.

As the answer to the ubiquitous question,"What is the best camera?", goes: The best camera is the one you have with you. 😉

And for me that is often the Q3.

Cheers,

Joel

P.S. One of my biggest niggles with the Q3 is lack of ability to see a zoomed in image with "digital zoom"

Traveling to Iceland in Sept, doing a 5 day trek, then 5 days driving around in a car. On the hike have to carry our own food and sleeping supplies so need to shed some weight. Owner of the Sony a7rV which I usually travel with but just got the Q3. Would I be crazy to go on a once in the lifetime trip with just the Q3?

Anyone done Iceland before with a Q?

I am 72 now and do not carry cameras, sleeping bags and food all at once.  But I used to and have a few memories of those days.  All you need is a single good quality camera with a focal length lens you enjoy.  If you have a Q3 or some variation of it, use it.  I have been to Iceland twice (before the Q appeared) and had to make do with a Leica M and two or three M lenses.  If memory serves I would have been happy with just the M body and a 35.

I own a Q3 which I purchased in December 2024 and used it to travel around the world.  I purchased the camera in Asia and was already dragging a MP with 35 and 90 focal length lenses along as well as a Ricoh GR3.  Suddenly I had two digital cameras that had the same basic view of the world.  But I found the size and weight of the GR3 and Q3 to be so different, duplication of use was never a problem.

I don’t know your size, weight, fitness or experience level for backpacking or the daily route distance or terrain you hope to cover.  The Q3 might be the perfect size/weight for this adventure.  I certainly would not carry more and if you already have a Ricoh GR3, leave the Q3 in the car and take the GR3 as a walking around camera.  Otherwise, you might just have to suffer with the Q3.  Don’t know anything about Sony cameras but the Q3 has the engineering for a few days out in the elements (better than an unprotected GR3, anyway).
