Don't you think the correction should get a bit more WB correction? It looks like a late afternoon before sunset, should be warmer.

Of course, I can take this photo manually at sunrise, sunset, and even at midnight) In Leica, they look at the settings of the dng file. For them, the deviation of color from the normal color balance is also obvious. By the way, this photo in b/w even won some award this year. If I'm not mistaken, in London. Maybe I can send it to a Swiss clinic for a cure. If not, I will need to teach myself to play the Adobe/C1 sliders like a xylophone. I’d rather take up the violin again and enroll in a solfège-for-seniors class. Missing my M10. Dynamic range is overrated. After some considerable time and effort, I’ve figured out enough about color balance options on the M11 to be very happy with them. Usual qualifications apply (just my own M11, YMMV etc.). There was a steeper learning curve than I’d expected even after immersing myself in this thread. Happy with results I’m getting now. And FW 2.5.1 installed itself uneventfully today in Fotos to boot.
Ne314satel Posted August 13 Share #1104 Posted August 13 My m11 camera is in Germany for color correction. Leica kindly agreed to do an urgent repair. When I get the camera back, I will write here and take a test photo. And in my free time without the m11, I experiment with the "dead" m9 sensor - I am making a series of photos "Life after death". If anyone is interested, you can see here in the M9 photos or on my Flickr page. Good luck to everyone, people!

Ne314satel Posted September 19 Share #1106 Posted September 19 (edited) I'm back. I received the M11 yesterday after color correction. The magenta has been reduced, in my opinion. Here's the test shot as is. Everything is on automatic settings Welcome, dear visitor! Chris W Posted September 19 Share #1107 Posted September 19 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had my M11 for a couple of weeks and I can't say I've noticed the colours being 'off'. I'm not using AWB. I shoot RAW outdoors at K5500, sometimes K5000. I owned an X1DII and both the image quality and the colours were nice, but I hated processing in Phocus or Lightroom and the tedious workaround to process in captureOne saw me sell the system (and buy an M10, then M11). The only M I've ever had trouble fixing the colours of was the M240. M11 test shot: Welcome, dear visitor! I think I may ask Leica to fix mine as well. 👍 1
costa43 Posted September 19 Share #1109 Posted September 19 After some time with the camera I've found the best setting for outdoors in bright light is 5500 in camera. I import into LR and use the Adobe Standard/Color profile and the colours look good to me as a starting point. Here is a 'SOOC' file with lots of blue sky and sea. (Adobe Standard, no other edits) I find the M11 produces the most accurate colours 'out of the box' of any M I have had. Whether that is most pleasing to you is of course subjective. Chris W Posted September 19 Share #1110 Posted September 19 I actually agree. I don't find it massively different to when I was shooting with the Hasselblad X system

Yes, pull back 5-10 in tint usually solves the problem.
pacnwleica Posted September 21 Share #1114 Posted September 21 Great advice in this thread, thanks to everyone for their contributions. As an owner of a M11P safari I'm also learning what settings work best for color.

For the matter of purplish tint your sample photo is both a good and a bad example: it is good, because it demonstrates that color perception depends on many factors and a purplish tint might not always be visible (our eyes fool themselves easily) or does not harm at all. it is bad, because the picture has been taken at sunset. As such the daylight color temperature is already drastically shifted to the red/orange of the sunlight (where it gets to) and the blue in the shadows. In this kind of mixed lighting situation any WB setting can create a good image and a potential purple tint underneath can always be interpreted as part of the image. From my color darkroom experience I can remember the long weekend sessions to correct a color cast on such subjects only to realize that the found color setting was off by huge margins on a „true“ daylight image.

It's a fair point, it was shortly after sunrise so the light was indeed softer. I'll post some midday samples with the same setting for people in a bit. costa43 Posted September 22 Share #1117 Posted September 22 (edited) Here are 3 not so interesting pics taken during the brighter parts of the day to give you an idea of the colour. Again, 5500 in camera and these are the DNG files unedited with the Adobe standard profile selected. By no means perfect colour but as a starting point I think they are very workable.
