shawn2nd Posted November 14, 2023 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, I have an SL 601 that I adapt M lenses to with the URTH adapter. To date, all of my lenses are not 6-Bit so the official Leica M-L Adapter was of no benefit / interest to me. I'm currently considering buying a current-ish 35mm Summicron or Summilux, which will be 6-Bit encoded. Speaking purely from a hardware standpoint, can the non-6 bit 3rd party adapter "harm" the encoding on a lens in terms of scratches, fit, etc?? I'm not too concerned with not getting the Lens Profile in camera from a software standpoint, but of course if I'm going to shell out for modern Leica glass, I don't want to inadvertently harm the lens by using the wrong adapter. If I have to shell out for the Leica Adapter in this instance, I will, but if I can avoid shelling out 400+ Euros for an adapter, and can safely shoot modern glass without hurting it with my current URTH adapter, I'd rather do that. Sorry for the somewhat silly question here, but I'm a Leica noob and would rather be safe than sorry 🙂

No idea 🤣 in my head I guess maybe the 6 bit pads on the lens could get harmed by the friciton of a non-6 bit adapter? Pretty new to this stuff. jaapv Posted November 14, 2023 Share #4 Posted November 14, 2023 No, that would not worry me at all the six bit coding is recessed. There is no physical contact.

Pretty new to this stuff. They are not pads. They are machined recesses filled with paint. Even at that the paint is slightly below the surface.
