sergiomarried Posted November 6, 2023 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi friends, I just realised that I have accidentally missed my external rubber viewfinder piece of my M10R.... Never happened before to me in any of my M cameras. Planning to send it to Leica for fix but wanted to hear from anyone with similar experience, perhaps better approaches out there. Thanks a lot and regards Sergio

Anakronox Posted November 7, 2023 Share #2 Posted November 7, 2023 It’s a user replaceable part and you don’t need to send it in for service if this is the only thing wrong! Leica Store Miami sells them but you may ask Leica Wetzlar if they can send you a spare or two.
adan Posted November 7, 2023 Share #3 Posted November 7, 2023 Should be available as a user-installable spare part - doesn't need to go to Leica (unless one likes wasting spending money, and losing the use of the camera for weeks if not months.). The rubber just press-fits onto the metal eyepiece ring. Just don't forget to align the ring with the eyepiece - there is a tiny square "tooth" inside the rubber ring, that fits into the tiny square notch on the left side of the metal eyepiece. Presumably to help hold the ring on - although not always that effective. Not sure how it works in the EU. But in the US, one can just call Leica USA "user parts department" and order replacement eyepiece rubber rings (same as with the red dots for lenses). Maybe in the EU the dealers can get them for you. https://leicastoremiami.com/products/leica-m10-rubber-eyepiece-replacement?variant=43034929616 All three of my M10s (10, 10-P, 10-M) are missing their rubber rings at this point - but I have't even bothered to order replacements yet. The metal ring has no deleterious effect on my (hard-coated) eyeglasses.
Anakronox Posted November 7, 2023 Share #4 Posted November 7, 2023 Spot on, Adan. I lost one on the M10M while I was still in my host country. Once I got back to the states several months later, I ordered a few spares and luckily haven’t had to replace any more since. I think I paid ~20 USD for each. Not cheap but also didn’t break me. grahamc Posted November 7, 2023 Share #5 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Happened to my M10 (D) a few months ago. The scratching the non-protected eyepiece has made on my eye glasses will prove to be more expensive the the part (Just AUD10 via my regular Leica Store). And yes is indeed user-replaceable. Must have been a slow sales day (or they know me too well) as they sent very comprehensive email instructions. Cleaned both surfaces prior with the alcohol swabs Leica sent with the eyepiece, and held together tight overnight with the strong rubber bands they provided. They also sent instruction not to use super glue, which I couldn't resist ignoring ... I put 3 tiny pin pricks of super glue on it even though I was instructed not to. It felt dangerous, I just can't help myself. Pinprick of Silicone would be a better option (and recommended by Leica as an optional extra) but if using either obviously needs to be a tiny amount that has no danger of oozing past the surface area (i.e worst case scenario onto the eyepiece glass). The tooth needs to align with it's female counterpart as Adan has pointed out. Edited November 7, 2023 by grahamc
jimofnyc Posted November 7, 2023 Share #6 Posted November 7, 2023 I'm careful to not rub my M10 eyepiece against my clothing and causing the rubber to pull away and get lost but when I first got my M8 I lost several rubber eyepiece rings before I decided to use a really small amount of super glue (applied on the end of a toothpick) to hold the ring in place. But one has to be careful not to overdo it with the glue or you'll never be able to get the ring off and clean away the remaining adhesive... chris_tribble Posted November 8, 2023 Share #7 Posted November 8, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) one small advantage of a screw in diopter is that the rubber on the eyepiece CAN'T fall off 😊
