I just purchased this adaptor to use with my 2 Contax 645 lenses on the S007

First Question:  When mounting the lens on the adaptor do you first put the adaptor on the body and then attach the lens?   OR First put it on the adaptor then attach to the body of the camera

Next: Its so tight trying to remove the lens from the adaptor. Is this normal or does it have to get broken in to get where its easy to remove the lens from the adaptor.  Thank you

First question: doesn't matter (in my experience)
Second question: Yes, tight is normal. Make sure everything snaps into place.

Just out of curiosity: what Contax lenses are you using?

I am using C 645 140 f2.8 and  645 35 f3.5 AF on both

 Thank you

Was using the 140 today, it needs a bit of sharpening in post (more than my Leica 120 APO), but otherwise a fine lens, especially for what they go for now. Happy shooting.

I would minimize the usage of auto focus. I had two bad experiences with other c645 adapters on other cameras. The problem is the power system. C645 (and Contax N) is 6v system ( it would be 4.8v if you use rechargeable battery), while most other cameras are 7.2, 7.4 or higher voltage. The c645 adapters I used try to get fast focus that did not regulate or limit the effective voltage applied to the lens. It ended up over stressed the lens.

My first experience is on Sony A7x, it burnt my Contax N lens. Later I heard the adapter power problem has been fixed, and I got a Gfx100s and C645 adapters. In just two days, it burnt a C645 lens. Unfortunately the adapter and the cameras are not from the same company, so it is hard to further pursue the root cause.

Friends I know who used S-C combo seem no such problem yet. But I decided to use manual focus mostly.

If you find your C-S combo has significant faster AF performance, I would strongly encourage you use manual focus only.

I damaged one of my Contax 140mm on the GFX 50r with the Fringer adapter, maybe it was the voltage problem you mentioned . But I have had zero problems with my Contax lenses on my S2p and S3 and the S-C adapters and I own two of them. And I use my 55mm and 80mm more often than  my Leica S lenses.

It’s normal. They fit tight and I keep the Contax adapters on my lenses. I have two adapters and both are very tight.

Good to get one more positive feedback on Leica S-C combo. But I am still not sure if to frequency AF would be OK. I am definitely over cautious.

The different voltage system does not imply there would be problems. As long as the adapter implemented the voltage regular to match the original voltage, or somehow limit the current, it could be perfect safe.

But how would we be sure? I don’t see anyone, including Leica, explicitly mentioned this. The clue Would take is the AF speed, if it is significantly faster than the original Contax 645 AF speed, I would stop using its AF capability. (Fortunately or UNFORTUNATELY, the
Leica S-C AF speed is similar to original C645).
