The Q3 would otherwise be my camera of choice for street, travel, landscape and family photos. I traveled for 3 weeks in Italy in 2019 with my Q2 and had no regrets. Thanks! The fact is I would not want to sell my MP240 and lenses (50mm and 35mm) so, if I had to choose just one option as a second camera, what would it be in your opinion? Advertisement Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Hi alexandres01, Take a look here Q3 for wild life/street photography and travel?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Trankster Posted November 2, 2023 Share #22 Posted November 2, 2023 I would wait until I had a specific trip planned and then consider a second camera body and lens, if needed. (My other camera system is the OM Systems OM-1. I purchased a long telefphoto lens for a safari which I am now selling.)

HPFM Posted November 5, 2023 Share #24 Posted November 5, 2023 Had the Q3 and a SL2 / 100-400 combo with me traveling to Svalbard - Jan Mayen - Iceland... September /. October 2023. The SL2 for telephoto failed (shutter defect, 1st day in Svalbard) and all of my photos were taken with the Q3.... So the Q3 delivered 100 percent including whale watching. Next time I´ll travel with 2 SL2-bodies and the Q3 for being sure to take some photos with a 100-400 if necessary :-)) Wildlife (I was the only guy shooting with 28 mm :-)) Welcome, dear visitor! Mikep996 Posted November 5, 2023 Share #26 Posted November 5, 2023 Q for Wildlife? No. I went "wildlife shooting" in Africa with two (non Leica) bodies, one with the equivalent 24-80 zoom and the other with a 300-600 zoom. They were perfect for that purpose. A Q would be almost hopeless and an M not much better. You need long lenses unless, as previously posted, you point to an object on the pic and say, "That's a cheetah!" jaapv Posted November 5, 2023 Share #27 Posted November 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am starting to feel guilty for having no complaints about wildlife on M. I have done plenty of it, with M3,M42 -Visoflex3-Telyt 400, M 8 and M9 with Noflexar-T 400 and Telyt V 280. It may make me an eccentric, but the results were there.

1945 Mouton Posted November 6, 2023 Share #30 Posted November 6, 2023 Wildlife could mean a lot of things, from shooting stationary animals to trying to focus on a peregrine falcon on a dive. I shoot mostly birds in flight. Nothing Leica makes would work for me. But I love my Q3 for street travel and street photography.
jaapv Posted November 6, 2023 Share #31 Posted November 6, 2023 Anecdote: I once went on a Raptor photography workshop more than ten years ago and of course one of the challenges was to catch a Peregrine flying in on a piece of beef. Surrounded by highly impressive Nikons and Canons none of the AF systems of the time coped - but I did get the shot using a R8/DMR 105-280 and 1.4 extender. By simply prefocussing and releasing just before the bird reached the focus point. (Bit of luck, that ) They couldn’t believe it… My point: you can rely on technology too much. 1

Mikep996 Posted November 7, 2023 Share #33 Posted November 7, 2023 Re auto focus - I did a lot of photography at horse show-jumping events, my wife was a competitor. I used a Nikon SLR/DSLR and 200mm Nikkor F2.8 lens and virtually every shot was pre-focused. Auto focus was not reliable/quick enough. Had a similar issue in Africa - autofocus would sometimes grab the wrong subject. I did a lot of shooting of big cats in brush and wanted the cat in focus, the brush out of focus. Auto focus can't figure that out. That being said, I find that the Q2 auto focus is consistently more accurate than what I can manage with my M10R/Summilux 50mm wide open. On recent trip to Italy, I used both cameras, shooting at f1.4/f1.7 and in general, I preferred the images of the Q2 over the M10R, INCLUDING pics shot with a on the 10R vs the Q's cropped to produce the same image size. Mikep996 Posted November 7, 2023 Share #34 Posted November 7, 2023 In my previous post, above, the phrase, "INCLUDING pics shot with a on the 10R vs the Q's cropped to produce the same image size. " Should read: "INCLUDING pics shot with a 50mm on the 10R vs the Q's cropped to produce the same image size."
