Hi there,

I were not able to figure out what exact video modes are supported by the Q3.

I am fully aware of the following specifications: https://leica-camera.com/en-US/photography/cameras/q/q3-black/technical-specification

I also read the following review: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/leica-q3-initial-review

My primary open questions:

  • is it possible to record video with HLG and/or L-Log on SD-Card? If so, which resolution work with L-Log on SD-Card?
  • Do I get a full 28mm image or is it cropped?

Cheers
Ben

Yes, HLG and L Log can be recorded to the SD, must be UHS II. MOV up to C8k.

Video is always inherently cropped when it uses 17x9 or 16x9 bug that is cropped on the sensor. But yes, you get the 28, it’ll always be the 28 distortion and compression but you can also use the digital crops.

I believe full 28mm is only available with 2k in ProRes

I guess so too :)

Of course I know about that piece of information. I also tried to play around a little, I believe I only get the full lens, which is rather 25 or 26mm with less than C4K. For the rest it applies somehow a 1,5 crop IIRC.

One word of warning, even with UHS II cards, if you use a 32GB card it will split the files into 1:22 max clips. I use 128GB but used 4 x 32 GB once to capture some unplanned extra footage and it’s a PITA.

l log no problem at all, the biggest challenge will be the AF drifting in low light.
