Hi everyone! I’m a new happy user of the Leica Q3 since a week. I’m completely in love with this camera and I’m already getting amazing results.

Yesterday I unmounted the lens hood because I needed to apply a filter and I noticed some “scratches” on the thread of the lens. More than scratches I would define them just signs. This happened only after I unmounted the lens hood. I understand that metal on metal can create this but I was wondering how many do you issued the same experience.

My camera has only one week.

Thank you!

Thank you. I have habit with normal lenses of other brands and for me was something new to learn.

Just in case: You can still use the with your camera delivered screw-on ring to protect the thread and have a nicer looking camera, if you are not using the lens-hood. In case you have not seen, this ring came in a pouch with your camera.

Thank you Daniel. I saw but I am using the lens hood from the day 1. It’s exactly the reason why I noticed the signs on the thread. I’ll remove just occasionally when I will need to clean the camera. I find more protective than the ring.

Leica assistance confirmed me that the thread would be signed in any case, so I got calm 🙂

Just checked my Q3 and there is no signs of rubbing or wear on the threads. I've removed the lens hood 5-6 times over the past month. Also checked my Q2 Monochrom Reporter, which has had the lens hood removed many times over the past year and there is no marks on the threads.

Perhaps it's the lens hood. Maybe some area on the threads that were left un-smoothed when finished?

No, the lens hood looks ok. I have no idea. Leica customer service says me it's normal and even if they could change me the lens it could be the same after a week. Mostly I would never send the camera to fix something like this. They would keep 2 months for something I even don't see if I keep with the ring or the lens hood. Surely bothers me a little to know there is but I can't do anything a part to enjoy this amazing camera for what it produces.

I've had filter threads develop slight blemishes like that.  When I found it annoying, I'd touch up the shiny spot with a black "Sharpie" pen.  Probably not the best fix but it made it less noticeable to me.

Thank you! I don’t mind to have a worn Leica. It gives personality. I’ll use for a long time so it’s ok. I appreciate your comment because at least I understand it was not me to cause this in some way. I’ll not touch with any pencil because I’m scared to ruin. I’ll definitely keep like this 🙂

I’m discussing with Leica about a substitution. Initially they said no. Now they changed mind seems

My suggestion would be to keep it.

You have a minor (very minor) problem.
If you mean they will replace the camera you could get one with one of the much more serious issues that are discussed on this forum.

Something to consider.

Thanks for commenting! Yeah, I understand your point. Mostly because they say that with another one the “problem” after one week would be again there because that part of the thread “suffers” this issue. So I’m going to keep and enjoy the camera
