Guys, please try Photoshop ACR / Lightroom AI denoise. It works perfectly like I described. Zero plasticky face or other artifacts. I 100% can recommend it. I use it also on my S1R (= SL2) Alm the time.

Sorry, Chris, I disagree. I use LR AI denoise extensively. It does a great job, but I can easily see that faces have been processed. I don’t want to make this out to be a big deal - I’m very happy with what it does.

The SL2 is not capable of photographing a church wedding in good quality.

Ouch!

I've done church weddings with cameras that had much less sensitivity than the SL2, so I imagine it was an unlit church on a rainy day, and you only had a slow zoom? Even then IBIS (or a steady hand) should have provided a decent range of usable shutter speeds.

second with AI denoise

attention they are in ProPhotoRGB

I can't see any difference (of relevance) in the skin between the two files

I tad different tonality, but no artefacts

Great images! The AI denoise feature in ACR is pretty good. But these images, as far as I can tell, have not been taken in challenging lighting conditions.

Unfortunately no. I had both an M11 with me (which was quite a bit better) and an SL2 with leica APO 35mm.

It was the first time I have used the SL2 for a customer. (I have worked as a press photographer for 35 years - but with Canon and Nikon)

Private things I do, I don't have my Canon anymore.

But I put SL2 on AFC and thought AF could keep up. Brides and grooms don't go that fast.😂

But on several shots, faces are not quite sharp. Using F.4 and F. 5.6, it is easy to get to 6400 ASA if you need a reasonable shutter speed.

Humans move - so Ibis and a strada hand do not go always.

I probably should have tried an SL2s but I couldn't get my hands on one.

I saved the pictures with topaz but didn't think it was necessary.

To explain F. 4 and F. 5.6. if two people are to be sharp in the picture…

But I probably should have used F.2 and accepted shallow depth of field.

I'm really just trying to be honest.

Maybe camera with many MP is not a good idea. For me.

For many years I have used Nikon and recently Canon R3.

And I know they can't be compared. AFC works pretty much 100% and > 12500iso is better than SL2 at 6400

I didn't think of AF! It's not something I would ever use AF at a wedding, even in my Canon days. I mostly considered it a disruptive distraction, fighting me all the way as I tried to focus on an expression in a conversation, or on someone walking down the aisle. I know some photographers are very good at managing AF and tricking it into picking the focus point that makes narrative sense, but for me it was always easier and faster to nudge the focus ring.

It's not a good idea in general at weddings. You aren't there to shoot landscapes. Even group shots rarely benefit from more pixels.

Good point. But as a working press photographer, AF has been there for many, many years. I think if you try, for example, a Cnon R3 AF and eye focus, I don't think you will go back. 🙂
I can't set manual focus with modern mirrorless camera. Not even Canon. And not in motion at all. I can on my Leica M but sometimes I miss. Therefore, I need a camera with good AF and a monster in low light. Along with my Q3 and M. I should have known it's not leica SL, but I wanted all my photo gear to be leica. But that's not possible with what I'm doing. Maybe it will come.....

The next SL will almost certainly have much better AF, like the new Panasonic S5ii.

I did some casual photos with SL2 and M lens.

Shoot mostly at 6400 and in Capture one opened the shadow and exposures 1.5 stop. Does it make it ISO 12500 or more?

To me, it looks fine, and nobody complained that the photos had too much noise.

The room light was only from Projectors.

here is the Capture one Original.

Has anyone used DxO PrueRaw3? I use it right in C1P for selected images and it delivers back a DNG without changing the colors (i used to use Topaz on DNG and it is unusable because of the crazy color that came out).

there are 2 options on the DxO

XD

and not XD

in the end, my choice was not to do any noise reduction. I just reduced the resolution a little in processing and delivered them out of the camera.

Many photographers stress on noise and photo receivers really care.

Here are the rest of the pictures.

Thank you very much for your time. I am trying to download some of your pictures. I really wanted it to work. But I just have to say it didn't do it for me at that wedding. I have been happy with the camera  and must say that the 35APO is something special. Thanks again I appreciate it. But tomorrow I unfortunately have to hand in the camera again. Hoping to get my Q3 back from repair soon.
