kalkadan Posted October 6, 2023 Share #1  Posted October 6, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi - my 50mm f3.5 Elmar Ltm Serial Nr. 134079 does not seem to exist.  I will try to post photos to show that it does in fact have that Serial Nr.  It was serviced by FotoMechanik Reinhardt - Katzenwinkel 72- 30966 Hemmingen on 06.12.2010 and referred to in the invoice by that Serial Nr. - 134079. However the Leica Wiki has this data: -130248 133506- Elmar 5 cm 1:3.5 (KUP.11-BP+7) 1931  -144221 151035- Elmar 5 cm 1:3.5 (KUP.7+CHROM.7) 1932 My Elmar 134079 seems to fall between the cracks. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what I might be missing. I’m attaching photos which may make it possible for the experts here to give me some indication of the date of manufacture. I am also curious whether it is Nickel or Chrome. Is it possible to tell that from the photos?  You may be able to pick up from the photos that the glass has a bluish tinge. Could that mean the lens was coated later in life? would really appreciate any help. Advertisement Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Hi kalkadan, Take a look here Leitz 50mm f3.5 Elmar Ltm - the Serial Nr. does not exist?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jerzy Posted October 6, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted October 6, 2023 nothing wrong with the lens, info found on Wiki (as well on summilux.net) is incomplete. I have seen few more Elmars with 134xxx. Your lens is nickel plated, most probably early 1932, it does not have "R" mark on DOF yet. More accurate list is from Thiele, I may check when back at home
UliWer Posted October 6, 2023 Share #3  Posted October 6, 2023 (edited) According to Thiele`s list your 134079 belongs to a batch of 3000 Elmars (132001 - 135000) from 1932. Never think that something does not exist when it‘s not in the lists. Though also never believe that anything which is listed really exists. Reality is always more reliable than any listing. Coating of older lenses was done frequently after WW II - and your lens looks coated. Edited October 6, 2023 by UliWer
