I doubt that they will, given that it is meant as a wireless connection. They could have done so already using a USB to Lightning connector.

Surely that is why they supply the cable to do just that in the box with the M11?

No it works with the iPhones that have Lightning ports and indeed "connect with a cable" is an option that comes up in the connection wizard in Fotos.

You can connect to Fotos on an iPad with a USB C but so far I cannot make it happen on an iPhone with USB C. I am emailing Leica to see what light they can shed on it.

This is from Leica's website:

"The Leica M11 is a certified Made for iPhone® and iPad® product. As such the Leica M11 offers a seamless direct cable connection to iPhones and iPads. Simply connect your M11 to your iPhone using the included Leica FOTOS cable for fast photo download and control of your camera with the Leica FOTOS app. For iPads with a USB-C connector, you can use the original USB-C cable of your device"

As you say, theoretically! The included Lightning cable does indeed work. However of course, all new iPhones now won't include Lightning due to the EU demanding USB-C.

I wonder if they will demand everything switches to USB-D, E, F etc in times to come!

I have the 15ProMax- nice phone, excellent camera. Very refined unit, good battery life between charges. Easy connection to Fotos, I use an Apple USB-C card reader, so much faster than Fotos. Overall a good buy. 🍷

@Kiwimac have you tried other apps to access the camera using your USB-C cable? Maybe it is indeed so that Leica has to write some code to allow the connection trough USB-C to the Fotos App. Unlikely though since the iPad App already allows the Q3 to be connected trough USB-C. Surely the M11 isn't different in this regard. I think it's either due to the wrong cable (Apple certified?) or the wrong connection option applied in the camera menu.

As Jaap already said, why not just use the wireless connection? Download speed is not going to be much faster with the USB-C cable, slower even if you're not using a USB-C Data cable (10Gbps). Bottleneck is your SD card with it's read speed capped to 300MB/s (assuming you're using a V90 UHS-II). I understand why you'd want the camera to connect to your phone trough USB-C though. Weird that it's not working. Keep us updated about the Supportanswer from Leica. I'd be interested to read their findings.

first couple of minutes might be of interest for some data handling on the go for photographers. Get a USB-C dongle and a portable SSD to back up footage from your camera directly to a SSD instead of the internal storage of your phone.

The main reason I got the phone was to use it as an image storage device for the camera.

I just want to be able to plug it in with the cable, which I could do with my iPhone 13 PM and the cable that came in the box.

The cable I am trying to use is rated to 10GBps by the manufacturer. I also tried the cable that came in the box with the phone (which is slower but is Apple) and that does not work either.

The cable will supply power to the camera from a mains charger.

I have emailed Leica and asked them whether there is any reason it is not working. The instructions are not helpful because they were written before the switch to USB C and are a bit vague as a result.

I hope they’ll stick with USB C for a long time. It will put an end to the cable spaghetti we have to carry.

Yes, but it is not that long since USB A was 'new'!

I have devices on my desk right now that need USB A, B and C, Micro USB, Mini USB, Thunderbolt 1/2 and Lightning. I think spaghetti freedom is some way off...!

I'm still waiting for iPhone 15 Pros to come back in stock... could be another three weeks here.

Really? I ordered mine the day after ordering went live, from my carrier.

I did it by live chat as I was walking the dogs, including a plan change. Phone arrived a few days later.

It’s one advantage of NZ - with a population of only about 5 million, sometimes there’s less of a queue!
