I did have an M10-D for a while. I didn't like and didn't use the faux lever. As a real old school film camera user I don't hold a camera in one hand, but use a neck strap for safety and balance the camera in the palm of my L hand using thumb and index for aperture and and middle for focus (just on the tab). The right hand just lightly holds the body, thumb on the thumb wheel and finger for the shutter (or on/off). I found the lever got in the way of the thumb wheel and tended to unbalance the camera as its the right hand thats supporting it. Horses for courses though, I just left it folded in. What bothered me intensely was the on/off on the back. Anyway I won't be buying an M11 of any sort as I've just added an M10-M.

thank you @newtoleica for the detailed ergonomic description.  we actually pretty much agree on how we hold and work with the camera.  sole and key difference may be that i entirely neglect that thumb wheel and hence am free to put the entire camera weight in my right hand, holding it between thumb and fingers 3-5, with the index on the shutter.  in that respect it's perhaps easy to see why my camera handling is much helped by that darn faux lever.  i am also a righty in case that matters here.

anyway, different anatomy, muscle coordination, individual work style all decide on one's preference - interesting !

i also disliked the m10d's power wheel, the m11d's on/off switch makes more sense to me.

Wishing everyone purchasing the 11-D this week all the best for their new cameras!  I owned the D-262 and now 10-D and loved both of them, the 11-D cosmetically looks as beautiful as expected and I hope many years of enjoyment for owners.  Looking forward to the reports from real users here (not the avalanche of YouTube 'reviews' we will no doubt see this Thursday).

Curious to see the Aus price as (inexplicably) it is usually the EUR RRP (including tax), converted to AUD and then + 10% (our GST) added on top.  Since the country of manufacturers tax presumably shouldn't be applied to exports, this Aus pricing never makes sense to me .  If this release follows the same logic it could be AUD$16,500.

I’d really like to try an m10d or md typ262 for a prolonged time just for the experience, I’m hoping a few more creep onto the market once this one is out. I think the m10r was the last new M camera purchase for me, almost 10k for a new M body is more than I’m comfortable spending. I also think as the prices rise, we will see a bigger depreciation sooner in the cycle when it comes to the used market, maybe not for this body as it’s a niche but for the standard line.

If the 11 release puts a dent in the 10-D pricing it'd be awesome and sure you would love it !   Having tested the M11 next to my M10-D in the same session/same lens , I much preferred the images coming out of the 10 generation camera.   For my uses no reason to swap (which my wallet will no doubt thank me for !)

Another quick well-used 10-D appreciation pic before our cameras become incapable of taking a decent photograph in a couple of days !

This one has black lens release and shutter-button from Monochrome

Could you provide some sample pics, here or elsewhere (link)? I have M10 and M10-R but no chance to compare it with a M11 with same lens, setup etc. I would be very curious to see a comparison.

I'm with you Graham. I think I would enjoy any of the previous iterations for the shooting experience, I'm not the biggest fan of higher resolution digital cameras and have just sold my m10r as all my lenses just looked too 'digital' for me on there, even my soft vintage ones that I enjoy the most. If I see a good deal, I'll pick one up.

With you both too on this, I also am thinking about selling my M10-R because I find that I prefer the output of the lowly M10-P I have in the kit more so. Ok the DR is better to a degree with the 10-R and yes the sensor is no slouch for sure, but I have found that I don't need the higher mp's most of the time and it's quite easy to shoot around and be careful of the P's lower DR. The exception I guess being the M10-M which is I think perfectly balanced in terms of it's mp's / DR.............However apparently I am told that if I wish I will have a chance next week to try out the M11-D in the wild, if that comes about then I would be very interested how the files look at 18mp's, maybe 36mp's too.

How about we start a new thread on Thursday? This 'M11-D?' thread is 30 pages of speculation. It'd be nice to have a thread based on the actual final release camera.

I think OP @IkarusJohn 's initial question has been answered?

I would propose it is titled simply 'M11-D'  or perhaps  'M11-D!'  or even  'M11-D IRL' or something hip ha ha

What do you think? Feel free to start it; I am away for a few days.

i am wondering when & where in the world will we see the m11d on the shelves ?  i was yesterday told by our local LeicaBoutique that there is "no indication when or how many we will receive. Hopefully sooner rather than later."

i like your proposal of "M11-D!" which is then in sequence with the earlier "M11-D?" but i am not sure when i will be able to contribute there, without that new body.

moreover the old one, the m10d, i may keep for now (not sure yet), and then i shall be able to directly compare the two bodies...

I think the best news about the M11-D seems to be the background push to iPhone.

But it remains to be seen how this works in reality. 🙄

Seriously? That is so strange to me. Or are you being ironic? To me the entire point of an MD camera would be to get away from technology and distractions...

I think it's a great idea, you could then fasten the iPhone to the back of the M11-D with velcro and see the photos in a more convenient way.

It wouldn't really matter that you couldn't access the ISO dial as I guess most real M-11D users will only be changing the ISO every 36 shots!

I just meant that this is the only improvement over its predecessor. In all other aspects, I would have chosen an M10-D.

I can’t see anything funny about that.
