algrove Posted September 27, 2023 Share #1 Â Posted September 27, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Cooke, well known for cine lenses, have released a group of 5 lenses, but for the time being they only have Sony E mount flanges. Cooke will bring out M and L mount adapters in 2024. Â Has anyone heard of Sony E lens to M camera adapters? Normally it is the other way around. Advertisement Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Hi algrove, Take a look here new Cooke lenses for M and L mounts now out with adapters coming soon. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hdmesa Posted September 27, 2023 Share #2  Posted September 27, 2023 It’s an interchangeable mount. You can remove the mount and swap it for any other mount Cooke will make these in. Sony E is just the first available.
hdmesa Posted September 27, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted September 27, 2023 Also M mount versions will likely not engage rangefinder focusing, so M mount is likely just an easy way to make it available to more mirrorless platforms.
memphismonroe Posted September 28, 2023 Share #4  Posted September 28, 2023 Thanks, haven't heard about these, looks pretty good. Problem I have though is when shooting raw on the SL-2S is the crop, would be cool if they release speed booster mount but I doubt it
Al Brown Posted September 28, 2023 Share #5 Â Posted September 28, 2023 M mount will serve the same function as these Leica M lenses: https://www.leitz-cine.com/product/m-08 The flange distance on the new lenses can accomodate both M and E mounts via swappable adapters. 250swb Posted September 28, 2023 Share #6  Posted September 28, 2023 I think they are only £18,000 for the set of five lenses, in E mount that is, probably £30,000 in M mount.

Same price for all 5 lenses and M mount )user installed) offered free in the US anyway-see B&H site. One lens is USD4500. These are original Cooke lenses and not a Chinese copy so this is a chance to own an original Cooke lens with Cooke lens cine character if you like that sort of thing. Know of any adapters for that application?

Ecar Posted September 28, 2023 Share #13 Â Posted September 28, 2023 If the specs are accurate, these are fairly large (E58) / heavy (575g) lenses. Probably more suited to an L mount body than to an M, especially if they are indeed not RF coupled.

Guess #2, Leicester, UK   I’ve no doubt they are made in the UK, but primarily as cinema or video lenses to match the current trend in using smaller cameras for film making. Even so they won’t match the form factor of a Leica lens because that isn’t what they are supposed to do. It is a shame Cooke never established themselves fully in 35mm lenses, but the big bucks of film studios don’t lie.
algrove Posted September 29, 2023 Author Share #15  Posted September 29, 2023 Not sure what you mean by"Even so they won’t match the form factor of a Leica lens". They are FF lenses made for mirrorless use.

Perhaps, but I own a few Leica M lenses with filter sizes larger than 58mm including the 50 0.95 Noctilux at 700g. Add to that recent Leica fast M 75mm (1055 g)and 90mm (1010 g) lenses both with 67mm filter sizes and weighing around double the 575g you mention. I never mind walking around with the Leica M 90.20 weighing 500 grams. Heck even the 21/1.4 weighs 580grams. One can now dial in non-RF coupled lenses with ease on the M11 or M11M. Based on the above I see no issue if one wants to get the Cooke Look with a Leica Camera-M or SL. The IBIS on the SL helps with any M or manual focus lens, for sure. The Cooke SP3 lens weighs are as follows: 25mm=575g;32mm=520;50mm=500;75mm=520;100mm=690. For me the 32/50/75 are the most appealing based on my needs. The intent of offering M mount is not so much for use on an M camera as it is to make a somewhat universal mount that a lot of people already have adapters for. For example, if I have the GFX, I can't use E, L, or RF mount, but I could adapt an M mount version. 9 hours ago, algrove said: Understand about the Sony E mount being the first available. Know of any adapters for that application? E mount flange distance is shorter than M mount, so there never can be an adapter to allow an E-mount lens to adapt to an M mount camera. The only mount you can adapt E-mount to is Z-mount because Z-mount is a shorter flange distance than E.

Winedemonium Posted September 29, 2023 Share #19 Â Posted September 29, 2023 Ah, so the Cooke look comes to Leica. Yes, better suited to L-mount than M-mount, but nice to have this option. I do like the look.
