Kamera Klutter Posted September 24, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve been very happy with my Q2 (in fact, I was happy with the original Q as well). The 47 megapixel count is adequate for my purposes. But I’m wondering if it’s worth upgrading to the Q3, given its improved sensor and tiltable screen (which would help on a tripod). I have a Reporter in good condition, except for a bit of fraying at the edges. I could trade it in pretty easily. The only downside is that I will need to use new batteries. It’s been convenient to use the same battery with my Q2 Monochrom, which I adore, especially when I travel and space and weight are at a premium. A bigger megapixel count is not my aim; in fact, they fill up memory cards pretty quickly. But is the new sensor worth the switch?

M11 for me Posted September 24, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 24, 2023 The new batteries you buy once and that was it then. As you state it yourself this is the only downside. Why did you not order your Q3 a long time ago? But there is another downside: The Q3 image will not look better than the Q2 images. The technical progress is more subtle. Many details have changed. The Q3 is a new experience. Nobody can tell you if the step is right for you.

anonymoose Posted September 24, 2023 Share #4 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) I had the same opportunity, played with the Q3 in-store and decided to keep my Q2 for a several reasons: I prefer the appearance of the Q2R (color, button layout, etc.) Took 5-6 pictures with both and compared them without seeing any notable difference in mixed lighting conditions. Q3 is better in low-light, but I don't have issues with my Q2 in low-light so I was ok with this The video capabilities of the Q3 were very tempting in terms of going from Q2 + A7S III --> Q3, but not tempting enough to commit Realized that if I didn't like the Q3, not only would I take a hit selling it, but finding another Q2R would be challenging The shutter blackout on the Q3 was jarring and ultimately why I decided to keep my Q2R What I did instead was buy a couple Q3 batteries to use in my Q2, so now I get the benefit of much better battery life. I also bought the Q2's new lens cap with plastic inside so I don't have to worry about scratching the coating off the hood. rich_ Posted September 24, 2023 Share #6 Posted September 24, 2023 I sold my Q2 reporter and purchased a Q3. I was happy with the adjustable screen for the tripod which i use quite low to take photos of our baby, the wifi improvements for tethering on the tripod, the lowlight and the USB charging which was very helpful. I don't use the video features but maybe in the future. Batteries for the Q3 are far cheaper in the US compared to the Q2. So i bought another. Finally I like that the files are similar to my M11, which for me was a nice touch.
LarsOtium Posted September 25, 2023 Share #7 Posted September 25, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Objectively the Q3 is a "better" camera given the improvements made by Leica. Whether it is better for you to swap a Q2 for a Q3 is a subjective question. And, each individual can only decide that question for themselves.
PluckinTones Posted September 25, 2023 Share #8 Posted September 25, 2023 If the tilting screen or video features are priorities for you, then trading your Reporeter for the Q3 might be worthwhile. However, the Q2 produces exceptional images. Also, the Reporter edition, combined with the Q2's button layout, is undeniably sexy – and you already own it. For added context, I had anticipated the Q3 announcement to evaluate any improvements. I played with one at the Leica store but chose the Q2 Ghost instead, I also got one of the new batteries, and it seems to last forever. I have no interest in video since I use a Sigma fp for that purpose, neither am I particularly concerned about superior autofocus or enhanced low-light performance. The Q2 remains an impressive camera. 2
