I noticed that Leica Store Manchester are selling it, at an inflated £40 (vs £30 at Red Dot, plus £3.50 UK postage). I was curious what they were charging for US postage - £68! I can't see US dealers advertisting it, though it might be worth phoning around - it's a very obvious thing to stock now that pretty much everything else like Laney 2 and Erwin's lens book is out of print and going for crazy prices. Some other dealers around the world are listing it, so Red Dot are presumably selling it wholesale. Might be worth chatting to your nearest specialist Leica dealer and seeing if they are interested in getting some in, or maybe the Leica Society, which has a US-based shop, might be persuaded to carry it?

The underlying problem is that there used to be a cheap transatlantic postal rate for books. The service was slow... but affordable. Alas, it's no longer available.

sent them a message this morning re any Australian distributors

reply from Red Dot - i've searched HK camera shops & can't find any that stock this publication - any hints?

Dear Stephen,

I’m afraid that we haven’t sold to any wholesalers in Australia. The closest to you that you may be able to source it for is Hong Kong.

Kind regards

I'm in the U.S.  I've spent thousands of dollars on Leica cameras and lenses over the years, I wasn't going to quibble about 24 pounds postage. I missed out on the 8th Edition and did not want to miss out on the 9th, so I ordered direct from Red Dot.  Call me silly but at least I have my book.

We can discuss this at the LSI AGM in Wetzlar in a couple of weeks from now. I bought my copy directly from publisher Ivor Cooper of Red Dot and author Frank Dabba Smith (who signed my copy) at the Photographica Camera Fair in London in May. There have to be a number of possibilities eg. LSI, Leica Stores, Leitz Auction in Vienna, all of whom will be represented at the meeting. We will also have almost 200 Leica enthusiasts from around the world at the meeting, so other possibilities can be explored. My good friend Mike Evans of Macfilos who is in regular contact with Ivor Cooper, will also be there.

I note that, as of today, the book is out of stock at Red Dot, which must mean that the first run is fully sold out. I will talk to Ivor before the Wetzlar meeting about the possibility of a second run with wider distribution.

Kind of a shame they don't make more copies available along with a wider distribution network but then again, I reckon we're dealing with a rather small audience.  I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

The decision lies entirely with the publisher. I don't see any shame in this. I am going to call the publisher, who I know, early next week to see what is possible. I suspect here will be a reprint. I have raised it with LSI colleagues as well.

Red Dot's international shipping charge is reasonable so no sense in quibbling. For those who are unable to afford airmail, if you can find someone in UK to order for you when book is in stock, Royal Mail International Economy service to N America costs £11.80 for small parcel – but transit can take 6 weeks. Better to order direct from Red Dot and receive book within a few days – when back in stock.

I ordered one bundled from Red Dot Cameras. So far I only found edit error that Summicron-C f2.8 as f2.

The entry for the Summicron-C is correct (it is f2). It is the entry for the Elmarit-C that is wrong (f2 when it should be f2.8). This error is carried over from the Blue book as is the claim that the Summitar f2 50mm is A36 filter. As far as I can see all new entries are correct and, in any case, errors occur from time to time in most publications.
