I don't mind a small spot on the screen while doing a fun shooting with friends. But for some of my professional work, if I see these spots on the screen only after the photo shoot, it means that I will need to check the whole series of photos and use spot removal / healing. What's worst, if I miss some spots on the screen (because of a dirty sensor) and I deliver the images to the client, this would not be nice at all. My work covers high-end real estate photography and the images need to be impeccable. I do my best to double check all images before delivery, but I need to have a clean sensor beforehand, as this optimises my workflow and reduces my post-shooting editing / proofing time for all images. Ideally it would be great to have a 'curtain' covering the sensor every time the lens is removed. Other brands have it... maybe for future SL models. I can understand. Professional work brings a lot of responsibility and has some aspects that are completely different from fun shooting. Maybe that is something Leica needs to look at, the SL series is aimed at professionals and studio work much more than the M series and this aspect (including a service program for the needs of professionals) deserves attention. You probably have thought of it, but if you start your shoot with a shot with aperture closed completely to see all the current dust issues, you can maybe use it in PP to add and copy a healing layer for all shots (would work in C1P). At least you can then see where the potential issues are, and use the mask and layer properties to adjust the healing to taste/need depending on the used aperture and background.
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Hi dpitt, Take a look here Cleaning the sensor too often?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Paul2660 Posted September 18, 2023 Share #22 Posted September 18, 2023 I assume that if you are doing any cleaning of the sensor in the SL2 or S you have the camera power on so the IBIS mechanism has grabbed the sensor and is holding it down. Not sure if this is required for a blower cleaning (but I do turn my cameras on) but with a wet cleaning you should have the camera powered otherwise you can actually move the sensor around on the IBIS frame which I believe could push something out of alignment. Two other things. 1. LEICA should have a power on/off shake to help shake off particles like every other camera has with IBIS. Stupid not to have this with a firmware update. 2. The Math Photographer has an excellent video on cleaning cameras with IBIS and covers the Leica SL2. Just google his site. Paul C

Agree about your first point about the shake help. Thanks I've checked the Math Photographer video about cleaning the sensor of the SL2.
