LocalHero1953 Posted September 12, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Has this ever been considered? The reason (for me) is that I could then add it to my New Content activity stream, without seeing all the rest of the posts in the "Other". Not that I don't occasionally look at the "Other" forum, but the "I Like Film" thread has its own unique vibe that I enjoy. Of course, other members may prefer it as it is! Advertisement Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Hi LocalHero1953, Take a look here Make "I Like Film" thread a new subforum?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted September 12, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2023 You can’t have a sub-forum for one thread. The film one is pinned to the top of the “Other” forum, so easy to find.
LocalHero1953 Posted September 12, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted September 12, 2023 (edited) Understood - I guess I was thinking more about creating a new subforum to take over from the thread. Yes, it's easy to find. I have "Other" in my New Content stream, but that means I see all the posts in the "Chairs" thread as well, which I have no interest in! stray cat Posted September 13, 2023 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2023 I think it's a great idea for the reasons Paul has stated. It's also, arguably, the most popular single thread on the forum, so it makes sense it has its own sub-forum.

Some contributors to I Like Film use 35mm, others use medium format cameras with different aspect ratios; 6x6, 6x9, 6x17 etc and others use large format. Some use colour films; C41 or E6 or both, cine films, Portras and weird repackaged and rebranded film Some use black and white film; Ilford, Kodak, Foma etc Get the idea? There is potential for creating many different threads around the subject of I Like Film that can be expanded as a logical resource and good discussion potential for film users instead of the current melange of images that are only superficially related by the use of film. The thread is long-running and proven to be successful with a lot of interest that can be built upon positively. Why not give the arguably best thread on the forum for several reasons the leg-up it deserves?

It could work in a negative way, at least now digital users see the film thread in among the others and also see how healthy it is. And maybe they check in every now and again while browsing to see what all the fuss is about. But having a dedicated sub-forum could mean they never look in, in much the same way I never look at the 'Leica X' forum, or the 'S System', and especially not the 'M11 forum'.

It’s all Andreas’ decision.

It’s all Andreas’ decision. I wasn’t suggesting that 4000 pages should be split into subsections, that would be silly. I was suggesting a possible way of expanding the I Like Film thread in a dedicated sub forum as a resource rather than a generic photo thread Oh well, we all know where the thread lives and I agree that simply moving it in it’s current form isn’t likely to do it much good.
