Excellent portrait. The intense stare right into the lens is very powerful. His tats are well done, so he must have other good artists in his shop. The image is also superbly processed. Tonal control and detail are excellent.

Raph is from Marseilles and is a very intense guy.  He was standing outside the parlour with a client on a cigarette break, the client had his arm covered in cling film I guess to avoid infection.  Raph wasn’t that keen on having his photo taken and then I said something like “David Beckham (famous and rich footballer) must have been a boon to the tattoo industry”.  The reply came back that David Beckham and his tattoos were rubbish, except that the words he used were rather stronger, as in very.  OK, you can have your photo and this is what I got.  I’ve a few more of this dynamic Frenchman, if I’m allowed to say that, you feel that if you put a light bulb in his mouth and it would switch on.

Great story and a compliment to the portrait. Something I find most interesting about your street portraits is that you engage with the people and get their permission. You seem to have made this into an art form. I think most street shooters try to be discreet and catch people unsuspecting.

There's nearly always a back story to most of these portraits and I often get asked how I get so many of them.  I turn the question around and ask why do fishermen trawl for fish near Icelandic waters?
