clasami Posted September 9, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) At a recent event I have been using (accidentally) 1/60 seconds shutter speed. The people in many shots have motion blur from just moving slightly or talking. Scaled down to 3840x2160 they look fine, though. So I will definitely stay with 1/125 whenever possible in the future. Advertisement Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Hi clasami, Take a look here 60MP sensor and shutter speed. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pegelli Posted September 9, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2023 I agree, when you're concerned with pixel peeping sharpness motion blur will be more evident as sensor MP's increase, for the same reason DOF (again at pixel peeping level) will become less as sensor MP increases. However, as you found, showing the finished photograps at the same size as you used in the past with lower MP sensors the MP count of the sensor doesn't make any difference and the same rules of thumb you used in the past can still be applied today. This "was" a concern of mine. I use a minimum of 1/125 for shutter speed most of the time. When I first got the Q3 I set lens stabilization to "on" all the time so I could use lower shutter speeds seemingly more confidently. That was also the time the battery apparently would drain too quickly. I reset all the parameters to lessen battery drain and one setting I changed was stabilization to Auto. Again that was with the previous FW. Haven't tested the stabilization with the current FW. What is yours set? Lastly since noise is not an issue, if the ISO gets bumped up a little using 1/125 I am okay with it. Bob

Will give "on" all the time a try. But the problem is not me not holding the camera steady. It is the people that move their heads, talk, smile, move - and all that is a lot more visible with the 60MP sensor. #pegelli: Yes, scaling down to normal viewing size is an option. But I did buy the Q3 also for the ability to crop - at least to 75mm. And for that, one needs to be careful to use sufficiently fast shutter speeds. Voxen Posted September 9, 2023 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2023 (edited) Moving people will always get more or less blurry at 1/60, even on a 24mp camera. In street photography I always have my shutter speed set at 1/250 minimum, 1/500 best, to avoid this. Edited September 9, 2023 by Voxen

But indoors and late in the evening, shutter speed needs to come down to stay @ISO6400.
